Have wanted to visit this pub for a long time and finally went this afternoon as a ‘spur of the moment’ decision after a long journey to get lunch. We walked in to the pub after seeing the garden had lots of tables free, as did the inside and so we were pleased that we would easily get a nice table. After waiting at the bar the lady serving took our drinks order. And then asked if we would want food - obviously we said yes - which she then replied - ‘we aren’t taking walk-ins now as we are full and aren’t serving food unless you have booked.’ This was massively disappointing and unexpected as there were about 6 tables occupied in the entire pub and garden. I could not believe that the three of us were instantly turned away and we were with our one year old who really needed some lunch and we had just woken her up from being asleep on our journey. We were made to feel entirely unwelcome, with no real apology and just completely confused as the pub was empty! Dreadfully disappointing and sadly will not be visiting again. Anyone with a toddler will appreciate how annoying this is and the location of the pub isn’t exactly close to anywhere else to go! A rubbish experience and I would tell anyone else not to bother...
Read moreBrilliant stay, from beginning to the end. Great value for an absolutely lovely room, in an ideallic setting.
We ate here our first night, and the food was devine; the head chef/owner knew everything about every ingredient to every dish, which was incredibly helpful and relieving to hear as a vegetarian; also a testament to the fact that the menu is all homemade. We ordered the entire tapas menu, and everything was incredible. The breakfast both mornings was perfectly suited and flexible time-wise to a couple on a weekend retreat, as we were, and was of the same impeccable standard as the rest of the food.
The staff were very knowledgeable about the local area and helped us enjoy our stay in the wider community, they were even understanding when we broke down and couldn't check out until much later than we had previously agreed.
In all, we were treated like family; had an absolutely fantastic room, brilliant food, and an unforgettable weekend. I could not recommend this place...
Read moreI used to be a regular at this pub thanks to joining a a company where the staff had established 'the cow' as the local, and that changed shortly after I started. I took my partner there once and it was very much a blatant local pub for local people in the evenings, then we steered clear for a few years after an extremely rude (I was told owner) and staff.
However my partner and I decided a few years have passed now so we'd give the cow a chance as we were practically passing it anyway, and boy are we glad we did. There was a friendly, small country pub atmosphere from the minute we walked in to the minute we left. Excellent service, food, and environment. The car park could maybe be lit a little better but where's the fun in that, in the country at the end of Fairford airfield runway, your own headlights, the welcoming lights inside the pub and a couple of runway markers in the near distance are what...
