Having previously driven past The Poplars, and read plenty of fantasic reviews, I was really looking forward to dining here for my girlfriend's birthday meal. I would like to praise the customer service which was spot on, however, I don't feel that the prawns and chorizo salad starter is worthy of it's price for a total of four prawns, the fishcakes similarly so. As for mains, the pie was a more suitable size and tasty, albeit still on the small side. For myself, I had the lamb shoulder, whilst tasty, again, the portion given was incredibly tight. I prefer to keep art and food separate and be fed decent portions. I decided not to mention anything as the food was tasty and I was otherwise relatively happy until I made payment. Total was £48.35, I paid £52 in cash and was happy to pay a tip despite the small portions. The waiter failed to check if any change was due which would have been my queue to say "Keep the change",it's just rude to assume. It's a shame, I was very much looking forward to this but have been left feeling...

Sunday lunch booked for party of 6 and had been there before so thought we knew what to expect... good Sunday grub! Starters were excellent, fishcakes, soup and baked cheese but sadly the main course was a big let down. The lamb was served in thick slabs, plenty of it but was flavorless and tough, the beef was thinner cut but again, flavorless and tough. Green beans were overcooked and shriveled and all plates were swimming in gravy ( why can't the gravy be served separately??) You couldn't fault the service and for starters and service it would have 5 stars. Sadly, one of the meals went back and rest of us couldn't or didn't want to finish the plates. the staff were very apologetic and there was a good discount offered on the bill however we wont be going back...

Went to Poplars this evening for our monthly date night. A very warm welcome from the staff as we arrived & such a cosy dining room with a good atmosphere. Service was really good & the menu has enough choices that there is something for everyone. We ordered from the specials menu Lamb shank & my wife had the poached cod. Our food was fantastic, exceptionally well cooked, full of flavour & very well presented. No bought in food here someone spent a lot of time to deliver great quality home cooked food that was really something special. Prices are very good for the quality of food that we were served. Would definitely recommend this for a meal & will be going back again to try some more of the dishes on the menu. Well done to all the staff a really...

Poplar by name and nature. Last visited on the first night, the new owners took over, which was chaotic for the staff. But glad to see it's all settled down and the staggered seating times worked really well. The food was great. I'm glad to see fagotts back on the menu, though I went for juicy rump steak, which was perfectly cooked. One of our diners had the shoulder of lamb, which looked great and tasted delicious. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and were very pleased to to this pub fully booked and serving great food again.

I went here for dinner and was rather impressed. I ordered the steak with rosemary chips and salad. To drink, I had Pepsi. I was asked if I wanted ice or not, and I answered no, but to my disappointment, I was given some ice. I had also asked for no dressing on my salad, but I had been given dressing overall. I found the food quality was exceptional and had a lovely lively atmosphere to the place. 4 Stars.

Had a fabulous evening here tonight I had camembert & caramelized onion to start, quail wrapped in smokey bacon with new potatoes and veg followed by a rather large and tasty strawberry cheesecake... Absolutely delicious all for under £28 The staff were attentive and were good to talk too, a young lady was quite a fun lass and joined in having a laugh. I can wholeheartedly recommend a visit 👍
