We booked and paid for a traditional room with freestanding bath, separate shower and partial sea view. The bath and view were the factors we booked on the strength of. On arrival, when we finally found someone as the place seemed deserted, we were allocated a room with a shower and no bath at all. We were then moved to another room which wasnât the room we had booked either and had a combined bath and shower. We were told that the room we had booked and paid for was already occupied and had been for the past three days! Our âviewâ from this room that we had no option but to take, was of the car park. We were told by the gentleman who had given us the room that he would mention the booking error to the owners but I can only assume this never happened because no one ever came to speak to us about the room mixup and we were never offered any compensation, even though we had paid more for a much better room than we had received. ||Upon unpacking we realised it was practically impossible to open the wardrobe due to the fact that there were no handles on it, merely the stubs for the handles to be attached to and we had to prise them open and hang my handbag on one of the doors to keep them open so that we could use them. This seemed to be the theme throughout the room, with the bath tap not being attached and also having to be prised out with fingernails and the same with the wash basin, which resulted in us having to stick our our hands into our used water to get the plug out. ||There was a small fridge in the room which at first we thought would be useful until we opened it and saw the state of it inside. It was absolutely filthy. It also made a horrendous noise so we would not have slept through it anyway. Due to a broken latch, my husband had to prise open the window just so we could get some air in the room as there was no extractor fan in the bathroom and no air conditioning and the whole place steamed up. Had there been air con and no need for us to open the window, we might have actually got some sleep, which we didnât because of the road noise (primarily motorbikes racing up and down at what sounded like dangerous speeds) ||Anyone using this room should be aware that the tiles in the bathroom become EXTREMELY slippery. The flat tiled area at the side of the bath filled with water from the shower and had to be manually scooped out before anything could be put on that surface as it was just a river of water.||The coffee machine overflowed as the cups were way too small to accommodate the drinks it produced. I mentioned this to the staff at breakfast and asked to take up a coffee mug from the restaurant in order to use the machine. ||We ate at the hotel on the first night and this is where the place redeemed itself as the food was very very good as it was also at breakfast both mornings (although the coffee machine was broken, something we hadnât realised because there was no sign up to let anyone know, and it consequently began randomly descaling itself necessitating putting several cups underneath to catch the water! We wanted to eat there the second evening too and asked if we should book or just turn up but we were told that the restaurant was closed on Sundays so we made alternative arrangements. After a meal elsewhere, we decided to come back to the hotel because my husband was driving and it would mean he could relax and have a couple of whiskies in the bar. When we arrive back at the hotel, the whole place was locked up including the bar! It was about 8:30 pm! We were never told that the bar would be closed as well and we never thought in a million years it would have been! With nowhere else to go and nothing else to do, after a short drive around the area we resigned ourselves to a cup of tea in the room and an early night. ||All in all our weekend was what we made it to ourselves and we had a wonderful time. None of that was to do with our accommodation. The only redeeming factor about this place is the chef who produces some fantastic food. I canât comment on the room we booked as we never got to see it, I can only comment on the room we were given, which was...
Read moreBooked in for 2 nights in May, bed and breakfast.|Arrived and found plenty of parking.||We were warmly welcomed and given details of our room and breakfast times.|Our room was accessed by leaving the pub and going up a metal staircase round the back. Our keycard was in the door waiting for us.||The room was roomy enough, but not massive, and a bathroom with shower.|I'd say the room needs a bit of a refurb, but it's an old building so some compromises have to be made, although our window was extremely hard to close (it was left open and it was cold).||The room had a double bed, two chairs, TV, a dresser with tea and coffee making facilities (unusually, there was also a Nescafe Vertuo machine as well as instant coffee, but unfortunately it wasn't working (we told the staff who offered to replace it immediately, but I said they could leave it until we left as I had taken coffee bags with me as I like to be prepared!).||There was WiFi, but it was too slow to use, especially as the TV had no signal, so we had to use Catch-up (with buffering).||Bed was comfortable.||Fantastic selection for breakfast, with cereals, yoghurts, fruit etc plus Full English, which was really good.||We also had the Sunday Dinner, and all I can say is that the small would be a normal in most places.|I ordered the standard one but my wife asked if they did a small plate, which they did.|Both of us got ample meat (both went for beef), mashed potato, roast potato, roast parsnips, carrots, peas, broccoli, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, a pig in blanket, stuffing ball and a giant Yorkshire Pudding!|The Beef was moist, everything was cooked nicely, and I think it was £15 for the standard and £11 or £12 for the small, an absolute bargain.||Staff were great, overall the room was fine and comfortable, and given the prices of other places in the area it was a bargain, so I definitely wouldn't complain and will go again.||Proximity to Wastwater is a bonus if you...
Read moreMyself and my husband visited here last Wednesday and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely amazing, my husband chose chicken skewers and I had crispy chilli chicken and salt and pepper chips. The staff, especially Nicola, are really lovely and nothing is too much trouble for them. We enjoyed our meal that much we decided to go back on Sunday. Our son joined us this time and we all ordered a Sunday roast. We didnât have to wait too long for our food to arrive and again, the food was amazing, lots of meat, vegetables and mash alongside roast potatoes. If I had to make 1 complaint, it would be that there wasnât enough cauliflower cheese on our plates and this is only because it was delicious and we could have eat more of it. The waitress, was so lovely, sorry we didnât get her name, and the rest of the bar staff were so friendly. . When we are back up in the lakes we will definitely be visiting the red admiral again. 10/10 for the food, the very friendly and welcoming staff, the cleanliness of the pub and an added bonus is that they are also...
