A Hidden Gem in Brecon: The Three Horseshoes Groesffordd Discovering The Three Horseshoes in Groesffordd, near Brecon, can only be described as stumbling upon hidden treasure nestled in the picturesque Welsh countryside. Situated a few mere stone's throw from Brecon Caravan and Motorhome Club site where we are staying, this charming pub and restaurant offers an enchanting walk-through quiet lanes and woodland, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience. Ambiance and Service in Equal Measure The Three Horseshoes strikes a delightful balance between a welcoming, casual atmosphere and the efficiency and attention to detail you might expect from a higher-end establishment. Regardless of attire or occasion, guests receive a warm reception, underscoring the establishment's commitment to hospitality. We were expertly looked after by Jazz who did not miss a beat with any of her customers but all the staff's attentiveness ensures a satisfying dining experience without feeling rushed. It’s a comfortable environment where locals and visitors alike feel welcomed. Starters The menu kicked off with homemade bread and whipped butter paired with marmite - simple but mouth-wateringly delicious. Impressive starters followed. Braised beef ragu, in particular, was a revelation. Its presentation was so pretty, a feast for the eyes, while the combination of flavours and textures—from the tender beef to the smoked potato mousse, accented by crispy onions and pickled shallot—created a symphony of taste that set a high bar for the main to follow. Equally impressive was the fillet of Cornish gurnard, showcasing the kitchen's prowess with fish. Accompanied by a harmonious blend of dhal, fennel and samphire bhaji, with a touch of coriander, it was a dish that speaks to the chef's creativity and respect for seasonal ingredients. Mains The main courses maintained a high standard. The pork belly, paired with hen of the woods mushroom, burnt apple, pomme puree and turnip, was a standout. Its perfect execution—crispy skin atop tender, flavourful meat—exemplified the kitchen's ability to elevate classic dishes with a modern twist. Choosing the hake was a decision influenced by the quality observed on the previous evening when we visited for a drink and it did not disappoint. The fish, served flawlessly cooked with a side of peas a la francaise, Koffman’s potatoes and chives, confirmed The Three Horseshoes' excellence in fish cookery. Final Thoughts The Three Horseshoes in Groesffordd is more than just a dining venue; it's an experience that captures the essence of what makes local, countryside dining so very special. It's the epitome of what makes a British pub set in a small village exceptional. Its combination of a warm, inclusive atmosphere, superb service and a commitment to excellence in the kitchen makes it a must-visit for anyone in the Brecon area. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor to the region, The Three Horseshoes promises an evening of delightful discoveries and, quite possibly, the best meal you'll have in Wales. Our planned return from 30 miles away for a summer evening speaks volumes of its allure, urging us to share this gem with our friends and family.

Is the food nice, absolutely. Was the beef perfectly cooked, absolutely. Was all the food 5/5? Absolutely. Was the staff rude, absolutely! I was in a hoody, it's Sunday and why shouldn't I? My friend is also wearing relaxed clothing. And it was bizarre to be treated so poorly. Bareing mind, we have all been successful in our careers. We were treated with absolutely disgust almost, the comical thing was the shed next door, the server was so polite and nice. But then rude to us? I don't understand it? Memorable moments: - when ordering starters and desserts, the waitress rudely said "I need the menu, you can have the menu back when you want dessert" my friend was holding his menu as he pondered if he was in consideration for this. And the best, rudest comment yet. - Firstly, asked if we wanted dessert. We declined, as we felt the poor service was quite enough. Then 1 minute later, told our time was up and we needed to leave. So, what exactly would happen if we ordered dessert? Would we be asked to move? And not get dessert? The other sheds for example were empty...I'm so curious to see how our requirment to leave was met, when 2 other sheds were free. And just to reiterate this, the pictures later on show the sheds empty...but we "needed to leave" yet there were empty "sheds" The 1 star, is for the food, the service, can and will remain insulting, and we all felt insulted by how they treated us. We was too young, dressed in jeans and hoody not appropriate for the establishment which was not a fancy restaurant, its still an "inn" Shame, honestly staff let it down

We went to the Three Horseshoes today for a family meal having booked a stay at the Brecon Beacons Caravan Site and pre-booked our meal. We sat in the garden as we had our pooches, we were greeted at the gate with a smile. When we were brought the garden menu we were slightly optimistic as it was quite limited compared with what we had seen on the website. A few worried faces amoungst the group but we took the gamble. We quickly chose our trusty dishes, steak and fish and chips and the boys were happy with the kids meal menu. What can I say.... the food was amazing! We were offered complimentary Rosemary Focaccia bread with marmite butter, lovely taste, not too much marmite! Our dinner all arrived together, 6 dishes, lovely and hot, presentation is nothing like I have seen in a public house. Quality and quantity was perfect, without giving you a blow by blow account of each item, it was outstanding. Photos are sirloin steak and fish and chips. We enjoyed a small ice-cream dessert which was accompanied with lovely roasted nuts. All waiting members of the team were really helpful, attentive and happy. The toilets were clean and tidy with sanitising stations around the pub for use. Amazing hidden treasure in the Brecon Beacons. Thank you guys for such a perfect evening!

Well....don't judge a book by it's cover is the best way to describe my experience as the Three Horseshoes Inn! We are not familiar with the area so arbitrarily searched for "the best Sunday lunch in Brecon" on google, the Three Horse Shoes was one of the top choices. Tucked away at the top of a steep road in a small Welsh village, it's fair to say the Three Horseshoes Inn is quite unassuming. It doesn't have the charm of an old British pub from the outside, but as you step through the doors, there is definitely a "Wow" moment! For one, it's much bigger than it looks from the outside and secondly, the décor inside is very modern and stylish. Now on to the main reason for me writing this review.....the Sunday lunch. My partner and I are always on the lookout for a good Sunday lunch and with living in London for a number of years and now on the outskirts we've always had a lot of options. There are classic pub Sunday lunches where you know what you are going to get for a reasonable price, then there are the "let's spend a little more and get something special" sort of Sunday lunches. These typically cost significantly more and in reality, you don't always get a far superior Sunday lunch for the price.

The Three Horseshoes Inn has the best Sunday lunch I've had.....ever.

I had the lamb, which was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. There was some sort of puree on the plate too, I've no idea what is was but I could eat it with a spoon like a yogurt! Then the accompanying side plate of trimmings arrived with cauliflower cheese, mash potatoes, carrots and parsnips, gravy and more!! It was impressive....now every time I have a Sunday lunch I find myself saying "It's not like the Three Horseshoes Inn!"

What you get for the price is amazing and puts other "Premium" pubs and restaurants to shame where additional sides can be upwards of ÂŁ4 a piece on top of the already expensive base price of the roast.

Well done Chef, damn shame you're a 4 hour drive away!! I'll be sure to visit again next time I'm...

Had a meal at the restaurant on Saturday 1st April 2024, for my wife's 60th Birthday with a party of 6 adults and 3 children. The review of the meal was a mixture of poor and good. Myself I had a meal of pie?and mash, what was going to be in the pie for me was going to be a surprise as there was no indication on the Internet menu what was going to be in the pie. When I got the pie it was chicken, which was lucky as I enjoy that meat and the meal was very tasty. My other diners had a mixed enjoyment of there meal with 2 other people in the party ordering 2 sirloin at ÂŁ34 each and being very chewie with 1 not finishing their meal and the other finishing theremeal as they did not want to not finish a meal costing ÂŁ30 plus. Thie one was removed from the bill only after it was challenged at the payment, and I would have expected part of the other meal if not only have been removed or partly removed from the bill. We had waited before ordering on the Internet website to imform the restaurant our choices of meal for the evening as it says that the meals are changed monthly it was no different from the menu in March to April, to use what ingredients are in for that particular month, but no this does not happen so if you are a person and I do know it is difficult to get certain ingredients and meat does not like on the internet choices you are going to be disappointed. As for the cleanliness of the restaurant is good but I looked up and were we were sitting was a overhead fan and there was pieces of dust hanging off the edges of the blades and I would not have liked being sat under the fan if it had been working and large pieces of dust falling into my meal and onto...
