On our way from Cardigan we called in to Y Bryn A'r Bragdy on the way back to our campsite. We've been there once before this week; had a delicious pizza, children had good kids meals and the salad bar was lovely. Oh, and the wine, good too.
We take Bruno, the cutest ever 1 year old mini cockapoo, camping with us, and he enjoyed his pup treats and the fuss from the waiters last time we were at the restaurant. It advertises as dog friendly. Win, win.
Anyway, today we tried sitting outside but the children were too cold. There was one table left in the dog friendly area indoors so the waiter re-located us indoors. We ordered food and drinks. All good.
Our neighbouring table turned up with a huge golden retriever x new found-land. Absolutely gorgeous. The dogs said hello to each other, and every now and again Bruno would remind the big dog that he was the boss around here, and all the fuss and treats were his. Big dog responded now and again, but all innocent chatting from the beautiful pooches.
Other than the odd bark, both pooches were well behaved and sat next to their owners.
We'd started our drinks and the waiter that we'd seen at our previous visit recognised Bruno and made a fuss. Our son was painting, our daughter was doing sticker book. Mammies on the wine. Still, all good.
Cue the review.
A man in a jeans and T-shirt came up to the table and said to us that the dog was too noisy and said that we'd need to move to a table outside. Mammies and children all laughed, thinking he was joking. He didnât introduce himself, so we were slightly intimidated at the thought he may have been another customer being passive aggressive towards us.
He repeated himself and I wondered if actually he was being serious. I asked him where he was sitting and he told me he was the owner. He told us he was serious and that he was running a business and the dog barking was annoying others.
Unusual for me, but I was speechless. He knew we were not happy to go outside because we'd moved from outside a few minutes earlier. He was essentially asking us to leave the restaurant. Rage.
It was terrible timing because as he was stood there telling us how annoying Bruno's bark was our food was being served by the waiter. I asked him again if he was serious and he said that he was.
So, in front of my children, we were asked to leave a premises just as our food was being served, because Bruno was barking now and again, in a 'dog friendly' part of a 'dog friendly restaurant'.
The food was returned, we packed up the kidsâ belongings and took Bruno to the car whilst I queued to pay for the drinks that we'd had.
The owner queued with me and said that he didn't expect me to pay. I told him that I would pay for what weâd had.
The waiter that had previously recognised Bruno came up to me and apologised. It wasnât his fault!
Our neighbouring table diners commented that they couldnât believe their eyes!
The owner repeated that he didn't mean to offend us, but that his website is clear that they only allowed well behaved dogs, 'preferably ones that don't bark'. My upset turned to hysteria at that point. I asked him to say that sentence out loud to himself again, which he did, 'We prefer dogs that don't bark, like mine' he said. Speechless, again!
When paying he insisted that the wine was complimentary, I insisted on paying, but the waitress was getting redder by the second, so I left it and paid ÂŁ5 for a fruit shoot and Diet Coke.
Absolutely astonished that a restaurant that advertises itself as dog friendly only allows dogs that don't bark and, ironically, the last Facebook post it made was about it being pooch friendly.
Sadly, our 5 and 3 year old childrenâs recollection of this incident is that of a rude, unknown man approaching our table, telling us to leave because their dog barks. They ask whether we should inform the police?!
The food, drinks and atmosphere in this restaurant is lovely. But, beware, don't take a...
Read moreFirst time visiting yesterday after recently moving to the local area and placing a reservation online. The restaurant is lovely with nice views ( unfortunately raining whilst we were there, but would be stunning on a sunny day).
We were shown to a table and told that we could order drinks at the bar, but then the waitress confused us and changed her mind and said, âOr I suppose I can take your drinks orderâ and then left us to look at the menu. We were unsure which it was to order drinks as the waitress didnât come back, so I went to the bar. I asked for two Diet Cokes, one with lemon and one without and both with ice. The drinks arrived, both without lemon (no big deal) but once back at the table, realised that it wasnât Diet Coke, but was actually Diet Pepsi. I hadnât been told this whilst at the bar, if I had then I would have ordered something else, as my companion doesnât particularly like the taste of Pepsi. However, we did still drink them.
The food is pizza or burgers at the moment, as the menu is very new. Although on the menu it mentions a Specials and Desserts board. After enquiring at the bar about the Specials, I was told that there actually wasnât a Specials board yet as the menu is so new. This seemed odd as it was advertised that there was.
After awhile nobody took our order, when eventually someone asked if we had placed an order and we said no, the waitress asked us if we were ready and promptly took it. We were then informed that orders were quite backed up and there would be a wait. We were told that there would be about a 30 minute wait for the food, which was fine as we werenât in any particular rush.
The food when it arrived was delicious and piping hot. We opted for burgers and they were very nice indeed. I think the pricing is at the top end of what to charge for a burger, but it was very enjoyable.
The people at the next table asked us how to place an order for food, as they had also been left once shown to their table with no direction as to whether to go to the bar or if staff took the order. They had also been waiting awhile and were unsure what to do. We advised them to go to the bar as it was a little confusing what to do, which they did. I noted that their food came out relatively quickly.
All in all, it was a good experience, the food was great in a nice atmosphere. A couple of things I would say however is, staff need to be more dynamic and clearer with directions and it would also be nice to have more choice on the menu than just pizzas and burgers. Perhaps this will come once things have settled down, as I realise they havenât been open for very long. I did hear another table laugh as someone was looking at the menu and said, âItâs a toss up between having a pizza or a burger!â
To summarise, we enjoyed our meal, it was good to sample the food in a new place and to see what it was like. We would go again, perhaps in a few weeks time to see if there were any more improvements / additions to the menu. All in all, I...
Read moreWe booked a table for 7 adults and 2 children for 6pm. They asked us to pre order food, which was fine we did this. The weather this night was extremely windy and bad and we had family travelling over an hour to get there. When we areived at 5:30 (30mins) early, we told a member of the staff that part of our party are late due to the weather and they wont be here by 6,.can we hold the food back a bit. The staff was polite and understood our circumstances and said no problem at all! Great, rest of us sat down on our table and enjoyed some drinks whilst waiting for our family to arrive! Whilst sitting there we noticed there was another big table ( around 20 people) they had been waiting 1hour 30mins for their food and still wasn't ready! When the food came out it still was wrong, we thought here we go! Anyway, a lovley waitress came over to us and asked if she could check our pre order list (6:20 pm). So she read it out to me and i confirmed it was correct but not everyone is here yet theyre not far off. She said no problem again we can wait. Fine couple of minutes later our food was coming out, the children's meal first, and my burger, we said the children aren't here yet,.weve just told the other waitress. So they took the food back, looking all frustrated. Next thing, the man in the white shirt,.im.assuming the.manager maybe? Came up and said we booked a table for 6 so the food is ready by 6! I politely told the man we told a member of staff at 5:30 that we're running late due to weather and can wr hold back and they agreed, but yet again he said if we booked for 6 the food is cooled by 6 First of all, ive never been to a restaurant and pre ordered food that expects u to arrive on the time u booked a table to sit down straight away to have ur food. We want to settle down first and get a nice drink, not to come in, sit down and have the food infront of us. We did give them warning so why didnt the staff tell the kitchen staff not to cook the food yet! Every other restaurant ive been to they check to see if the whole party is here before cooking? What if we didnt turn up? What a waste of food that wouldve been. Anyway, after checking the list of what we ordered and i confirmed it was right,, it still came out wrong!! We didnt revieve our garlic bread! My pulled pork was cold, i didnt get cheese with my burger even tho i ordered extra cheese. The portion of chips was small, the kids meal had more chips than adults burgers. The waitresses were all over the place, none of them were communicating, everyone was serving every table and not letting others know what had been done etc... maybe it'll be an idea to give all waitresses their own area to serve? So not everyone is everywhere and no body knows whos been to which table! This was our 2nd visit and the first visit was pretty much the same, so we definitely won't be coming back, and we won't be recommending it to our friends...
