We moored here on bank holiday Monday, we were expecting it to be busy due to it being bank holiday and a nice day so were open to the fact that we may not get a table. We arrived 4.30pm, asked if there were any tables for my family of 4, the man who appeared to be in charge told us they were fully booked inside but we could sit outside, we asked if we could order food and he said the kitchen staff have been very busy and they hadn't had a break and he made us feel like we were a hassle!! He then said we could not order food until 6pm so the kitchen staff could priorities the tables inside. I went and asked a waitress for a menu, she then said we could order food at 5.30pm, it was 4.45 at this point so we said ok. Then another waitress came over and said we could not order until 6pm. Then the original Male staff member came over saying "who has given you these menus??" He then said we couldn't put our order in until 6.30 now and we could only order a pizza and not the menu we had been given!! He still made us feel like we were not welcome and just a inconvenience to him to be there! If it wasn't for the fact my 2 young children 7 and 9 wernt so hungry and there was no where else to go in the nearby vicinity we would have definately not stopped. I do understand the staff had a busy day but we should not be made to feel like we were an inconvenience spending our hard earned money at this pub on our family holiday. No apologies for the 2.5 hour wait since arriving at 4.30, nothing!! Will certainty not recommend this place and will not be returning. What did they expect on a bank holiday! Why did they just not tell us at 4.30 when we arrived that the kitchen was closed insisted of the total miscommunication. Also when the pizzas came they were average, 1 was burnt, but we were too hungry at this point to have another wait! Terrible service and attitude especially the Male...
Read moreBrilliant pub and restaurant (so much choice for food and drink -inc vegan options)- somehow manages to cater for scores of families and still maintain a level of class and sophistication suitable for those visiting without family. We had booked ahead 24 hours in advance (glad we did as it was busy and we would have ended up sitting outside) and the service over the phone was great. We arrived on time, we’re seated in the dog friendly section of the restaurant - a quaint and well decorated room which felt more at home than sitting in a pub in the broads. There was background music and we were served almost immediately. I loved the fact there were so many drinks to choose from - especially guest kegs and casks of IPAs - I was spoilt for choice but chose citrus flavoured beer as it was a hot day. Didn’t regret it - they were satisfying. Our food was ordered and brought out again in quick time. Portion sizes were huge (I didn’t complain) and looked amazing. Like the drink menu, there was lots to choose from - including some variety to cater for vegan diet. I chose a wild boar dog and was deeply satisfied. The pudding menu was slightly underwhelming - but after eating so much all I wanted was some sorbet and a coffee. Prices were a little more on the expensive side compared to where we ate on the broads but it was well worth the price. After dinner, we headed outside and let the kids play in the park. All in all it was a great meal to top off our brilliant holiday on the broads. If we ever return, we will...
Read moreLion at Throne was a huge disappointment. On entering the grounds of the pub, it was very unkempt. Clearly, investment needs to be made. The bar was OK staff were friendly but in need of training clearly. The restaurant decor was warm and pleasent again the serving staff need to be given some front of house training. The menu was one of the worst I have come across in my travels around the UK. Handed to us on a few sheets of paper with a miss mash of food choices. Specials were on a board outside the restaurant, so you had to go out and read them. Too much food was served both for starters and main course. Thus, we declined to order a dessert. This is a venue that clearly has the opportunity to do a good trade throughout the year if it invested in the basics and did them well. Finally, I visited the loo before leaving the restaurant and was almost sick from the strong smell of sweage coming from the bathrooms. Surely, the owners must have been aware of this. In all honesty from our experience, we could not recommend this pub restaurant and hope that when reading this review, you will take on our...
