We thought we would try somewhere new as we visit Guildford occasionally. Saw this place online so thought it was worth a go. Booked in advance for breakfast. Arrive at a large, well laid out carpark and walked to the entrance. Sanitising station and COVID booking in QR code so all good. The place looked inviting with a well stocked cake display. We were led through a cosy looking restaurant to what seemed to be an extension which was a bit plain and not very warm. The place was clean and tidy with sanitised table signs. Unfortunately once sat down another visitor was sat behind and very close. Our chairs were literally back to back so not great for social distancing. Ideally the tables should be more spaced. Coffee arrived promptly and was very good. We ordered avocado on sour dough bread with poached eggs and chorizo and a full English. Both arrived within about 10 minutes and were decent portions. No offer of more drinks but we were happy to tuck in. Full English was ok, a little bland but plenty of it although the beans were a bit disappointing. Avocado was good and the chorizo spicy although the sour dough bread was a bit stingy and didn’t go far enough, leaving a lot of ‘mush’ to get through at the end. Bit of a wait to clear the table so by then we were ready to leave. Views were quite nice overlooking fields and sheep and a fair few people were eating outside despite the poor weather. There was also a dog cafe feeding station although we did see one or two people filling their pockets from it! All in all not bad and probably nicer if we had been in the main part of the restaurant. Food was ok but not worth a special trip to return to. If this was useful,...
Read moreA table was booked at Rokers cafe for 12.30 on a Friday. Quite a busy time. We arrived ahead of schedule and were greeted warmly by all the staff. There were already several tables well into their meals, and we were shown to ours by smiling and professional wait staff. The orders were taken promptly and efficiently. We were not hassled, but the staff were available to get the attention for extra drinks or desert menus.
It was quite noisy with general customer conversations going on, but that is to be expected when busy.
The plates were pretty, stylish, and of good quality and size, and we were very impressed with the quality of the food when it arrived.
The pork belly was very well cooked. The all-day breakfast was massive, and the chicken burger was one of the best ever. Juicy fillet, well seasoned, and even the side salad was crisp with interesting leaves. Although it took a little longer to get desert, we were informed that it would before ordering. (It didn't matter) the ice creams were good portion sizes and the Eaton mess was great to finish off.
All told a very high level of quality product and service, over and above what one would expect.
Would happily go again and would also...
Read moreMy partner and I visited here for breakfast on Sunday 8th July 2018 and it was our first time. We were after a farmhouse type breakfast and not just a greasy cafe type breakfast and here seemed to fit the bill.
As we entered the cafe there were 3 members of staff behind the till, not one of them greeted us, nor made eye contact and we left standing at the till (waiting to order and pay) for at least 10 minutes before we were spoken to. The cafe wasn’t exactly busy at this time as we arrived when it had first opened, and there were about 2 other couples already seated at this point. No apology was given for keeping us waiting.
My partner ordered the full breakfast with an extra sausage and hash brown as he was asked what he would like instead as he wasn’t having mushrooms or tomato. When we sat down the waitress came over and said that the chef advised that he could either have a sausage or a hash brown and not both! We were shocked by this, they had gone out of their way to tell us that he couldn’t have both as originally told. The breakfast wasn’t exactly cheap either. Two breakfasts and two drinks came to nearly £25. I’m sure they could have spared a hash brown!
We won’t be...
