The Swan at Ullesthorpe — Restaurant in Harborough

My partner and I had Sunday lunch here on her birthday last January and it was the best roast we've had eating out. We also did a couple of themed evenings and again everything was faultless. Decided to hold our belated wedding meal here and chose a Sunday for the roast. Jenny offered us the upstairs room to cater for 18 at no extra charge, let us decorate it and have it all afternoon. Four of our party had Garlic Mushroom starters and all said it was the best they've had. The 18 roasts were either Beef, Lamb, Chicken or Mushroom Wellington and all were cooked perfectly. Eleven of us had a variety of desserts and all were scrumptious and beautifully presented. The service was spot on and everyone said what a fantastic meal and afternoon it was. The food is really average. I had high expectations after reading all the great reviews and after checking the prices in the menu. I ordered a swan burger and if I was to describe my meal with 2 words it would have to be: greasy and unhealthy. The chips were greasy, the onion rings were soaked with oil and not at all tasty, the burger was really average in flavour. It was really nothing different to a burger that you would get in any standard gastropub where you would normally pay £12.50, instead here I paid £17 for it. My son's chicken nuggets were also nothing special, and tasted like the ones from Tesco's café. I'm really disappointed with this place. Maybe we were just unlucky with our meal choices I don't know. On the bright side, the service and the atmosphere...

Absoflippinglutely gorgeous.

We had the pork and the lamb, both were lush, and so tender.

Huge plate of food topped with a 15cm tall Yorkshire pile. That too was lovely, I thought I could cook a decent yorkie but these were better.

Separate side of broccoli/cauliflower cheese, straight out of the oven, as the plates were full!

And “proper” gravy made from the meat trays I would guess, had a fabulous sheen to it.

Last but by no means least, piping hot plates and piping hot food. Makes such a difference. We took our time over the meal and it was still hot at the end. Wonderful.
