We visited on 11 February 2024 with my wife and some close family members to celebrate my birthday. I am over 70 and we had been planning this event for quite some time. All of us were looking forward to it because we had been to this place before and enjoyed it immensely. We also had not seen one another in a long time and this place was ideal as we all like the food that this restaurant serves. We had to queue, but the wait was not too long.
The members of staff were attentive and it was evident that they were very busy on this particular day. The restaurant was very clean and the food was excellent.
We were all enjoying a lovely and tasty meal when a family with their young daughter sat in close proximity to our table. I do concede that at times, children can yell, but this was excessive. Our whole meal was disruptive by this very young girl constantly screaming and then she would emit a high-pitched shriek. Her parents did absolutely nothing to placate the behaviour. I was shocked at this and I could tell that the members of staff were just as bothered.
I have children with ADHD and in fact, they were seated at the table. They looked perturbed and they knew that it was the wrong way to behave.
In many ways, the meal was ruined. I have never heard screaming like that and what is more, I have never seen parents take such a complacent attitude towards a child's behaviour. I wish that they would have taken more responsibility and realise that the behaviour impacts the enjoyment that other people have of their meal.
I want to applaud the members of staff for...
Read moreSadly queuing for more than 45 minutes for a table for lunch indicates that there is a desperate need to sort out how customers are accomodated in Cafe Theatre.
What is distressing is that other customers buy hot drinks and walk through to empty tables and then they order their food, whilst other families and the elderly wait patiently to be accomodated, then seated and wait again to be served in the order they are seated. Equally tables are reserved and remain empty for long periods of time. Equally people are using the restaurant as a waiting place whilst others go shopping and this reduces the space to accomodate hungry clients.
I realise we are heading to Christmas and today is manic partly because of the weather but when the silly season starts in force, I for one will be avoiding Redfields and Cafe Theatre especially as I was not asked about my allergies. I can only hope there was no sulphites in what I was served.
What a disappointing way to spend my birthday lunch. And it is in no way the fault of the young waitrons and waitresses who are apologetic and run off their feet. Sadly because of the chaos at the reception table the service is only awarded a 2 as the issue with queue jumping continued even after we spoke nicely to the manager in French about the chaos
P.S be prepared to pay up front and then sit and wait until the cow is killed, the chicken is plucked and the Irish potaoes have been evicted from the bog. It is now 2.18pm... and the minutes are ticking by.
Food arrived at 2.20pm ... the roast beef and roast chicken...
Read moreDisappointing breakfast experience. We started with a coffee each - a Cappuccino for me which was more like a Latte and didn't taste great, and a Mocha for my husband which we both thought tasted awful. We had somewhere to be shortly so asked for the wait time on food, we were told 5-10 minutes so decided to go ahead and order. 30 minutes later our food arrived and we weren't impressed. The bacon was dry and bland, my poached egg was rubbery and not runny, sausage was overdone. Hash brown was ok. The best bit was the beans and the toast. The cafe itself is beautiful and the staff who served us were all very friendly, but we won't...
