Lovely, old school village pub. Very homely with an open, working fireplace. Fight for that table near the fireplace, it's worth it. There is a hall outside with tables and chairs down one side, while the other has a skittles alley. There is a small kitchen to the side as well. My only issue, is the price of the drinks. I understand drinks are not cheap these days, but paying £6.80 for a pint of Peroni is way too much in my opinion. I know you can pay more in other parts of the country such as London, but you can also pay a lot less elsewhere. Gripe aside, this is a great pub. They have a good team in place. All the staff on shift every time I have visited have been friendly and helpful.

Went here to celebrate first month of married life. Food and drinks were great, suited the ambience, I wished we could've come earlier to see the beautiful surrounding area. Felt proud to dine in a Women Owned and run Pub! 😄 They have used everything related to the place's history and significance in their interiors. The only set back was a trainee/new waitress, who got our orders wrong and then didn't even look towards our table when we wanted to order further. But no complaints, I'm certain she'll get to he best in time.

I had high hopes as the menu looked quite nice but as soon as the starter arrived, I was disappointed. The chicken wings just tasted of spicy vinegar; Not a pleasant start for £8.50. The beef roast was mainly fat, as pictured. The roast potatoes tasted very old and didn't have a nice after taste. The Yorkshire pudding was light and fresh though. The one carrot and parsnip was also nice but I expected more for over £20 for a roast. I didn't stay for dessert after the big let down. We won't be coming back sadly

The food was lovely and well presented, but portion size was small. A few shocked looks on our faces! Definitely overpriced for portion size. I had salmon salad & expected much more than about 4 small pieces of salmon scattered on the top. A portion of bread would have been acceptable. Food allergies statement was rushed over & almost non existant after we had ordered - I have food allergies so listened for it. I had banana bread & ice cream for pud. We selected from the more reasonably priced set menu of 2 courses (which had not been initially offered). Tea & coffee was available with a strange way of serving it! There seemed to be only 1 small toilet (a disabled person would have struggled. I am disabled but dont have major mobility issues) for each of the ladies & gents. They are squashed into a dark corner & the lock on the ladies was very dubious & extremely antiquated. There was a large funeral party in at the same time as us & I do think that the toilets should have been checked. There was a lot of paper strewn all over the floor & was sitting in water puddles. Didnt look particularly good. The flush for the toilet was a dangling chain that was broken & quite high & difficult to reach. The parking out the front of the pub is very haphazard & certainly no disabled spaces. We assumed there was a car park at the rear (but no signs to this effect). It was very full for our lunchtime arrival & difficult to manoeuvre in especially for the very limited disabled spaces. Staff seemed...

Could do a lot better service wise and management of the diary?

A large table celebrating birthdays. On arrival the table isn't ready so we already start 20 minutes late. At the table drinks order takes quite a while. We order the food. 1 starter only from the whole table takes over 30 minutes to arrive? Main course then also takes a further plus 30 minutes. Before we get the mains not 1 member of staff came to the table to see if we needed drinks or if we wanted the kids food. In fact 2 times someone from the table had to approach staff for another drink. Mains finally arrive. We had a check back! Great I was able to order an extra drink. Why put chopped chives on kids mac cheese? Soo many fussy kids keep it plain. Mains done dessert ordered again took a while. Birthday cake bought out with staff helping with the happy birthday singing fantastic. Dessert delivered and then we became the forgotten table. No up selling for more drinks. We had to find someone to ask for the bill. After about 20 minutes from the bill arriving 1 of the party then went to find someone to pay as it seemed like we didn't exist anymore?

Food was ok nothing special roast beef was nice.

When a Sunday roast lunch takes over 3 hours then something is...

First ime in this pub and after reading the Google reviews we thought it worth a try.

The good: ambience, service, beer (read real ales, not lager!!!)

The (not so) good: the quality of the food. The Google interpretation of 'Gastro pub' is a pub that specialises in high quality food. In all honesty the food is not great and certainly not 'gastro'. My wife's Sea Bass was very basic yet very watery while my steak pie with mash... Well it was the mash that tasted as though it had been too close to the lamb being cooked, I really do not like lamb due to its fatty taste and this is exactly how the mash tasted. I even asked my wife to try it who loves lamb and she confirmed my own thoughts. The pie was average.

Deserts were ordered and while tasty on the whole they were again not what I would call Gastro .

While service was good dare I say it was too quick, food order to table delivery took literally minutes . . Incrdibl quick.

Comments have been made in previous reviews to prices being high. I would not agree with this, they are in line with other establishments in the area, some that are...
