Fantastic location and a reasonable sized car park although at 11.30 on Monday morning the car park was full even though the pub was not. By the time we tried to order at 11.40 we were advised lunch service didn't start till noon and we couldn't pre order. When 12.00 arrived I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich with cucumber and dill garnish served with chips. I was advised that there was no granary bread available, even though it was the start of service, so I agreed to brown bread. 30 minutes later the sandwich arrived. I wish it hadn't. The bread was stale so much so I thought perhaps it had been toasted but as the butter was not melted that could not have been the case. Then the contents...dollops of cream cheese with a few chunks of smoked salmon that was so tough it tasted like it too had been left out on a plate to air dry. 2 slices of cucumber no dill. Needless to say I left this disaster. When the waitress came to collect our plates she said everything ok, I said obviously not pointing to my uneaten food she smiled. I said that it wasn't funny and explained the problem she said oh can I get you anything else. As if. We explained we had ordered hot drinks. After waiting 15 mins, no drinks so my companion went in to query and the person behind the bar asked if she was sure she had placed the order!!? She assured the bar person she had not only placed the order but paid for it. So the order was re-placed and after a further 10 mins a young waiter appeared we called him over as he couldn't find the table, he apologised for the delay saying he was rubbish at making coffees!? He was right, my decaf latte was barely luke warm and my companion's hot chocolate likewise was not hot. If you want a good setting for a drink and you aren't in a hurry the ship is fine , if you want good food and competent service avoid...
Read moreA nice old style pub right on the waters edge. Very busy but dispite that the bar service was quick and efficient. We tried ordering our food while having a nice cool drink but the phone signal was poor so the table app ordering wouldn't work well. So I went in an ordered the food the good old fashioned way. After waiting 40 minutes for the food (I was expecting a wait as it was busy). A member of staff came out and apologised for the delay in our food as there was a problem in the kitchen. We waited another 15 minutes and our food finally arrived. A burger for myself and a chicken burger for my son. My son took a bite out the burger and went "YUCK". On inspecting the burger it was burnt. The photo shows one side the other bits of chicken were worse. I went inside and and went to tell the lovely lady with a tattoo on her neck but she beat me to it and said "I will get the kitchen to do another" I politely refused as we had been over an hour. The bar staff here are very nice and polite and cannot fault them. Sadly the kitchen staff need sorting. They should be told "quality over quantity". People will wait for good food but will never return for bad rushed food. For this reason only 3 stars is given. Get the kitchen staff in order Mr manager and you would get 5 stars all the time. Or it could be down to bad management pushing the kitchen staff to much. I will let you...
Read moreMy partner and I have been to the ship for a full English on one other occasion and had a lovely breakfast. Today however was a new experience. When we arrived we were greeted with a friendly smile and duly ordered a full breakfast each. When the food arrived we were both looking forward to our breakfast. All was well until I cut into my sausage and found that it was pink in the middle and so was my partner's. My partner asked a member of staff if they could take the sausage's away and cook them for a while longer as we were very much enjoying the rest of the breakfast. The staff member apologised but her explanation was one that my partner and I found very amusing. The staff member said that the butcher that they used puts red dye in the sausage's which is what causes them to appear under cooked. She then proceeded to tell us that this was not the first time that someone had complained about it. She took them away and had some more cooked. When she returned she repeated her story about the butcher and again apologised ensuring us the the freshly cooked sausage's had been cooked to 74 degrees. The sausages were indeed cooked very nicely this time with no pink butcher's dye in the middle. A simple apology would have been far more appropriate and much simpler as we all make mistakes but to spin us such a long winded yarn had my partner and myself puzzled for the rest of...
