Great starters. Pity about the mains We have often enjoyed good food at the Lamb over the last few years, so it was with great anticipation that we set out for lunch on Bank Holiday Sunday. Starters were great. Pea and ham soup and a brilliant chicken liver and mushroom pate. Could not wait for the mains. We all chose a pork lunch served with roast potatoes, parsnips, crackling, brocali and carrots, served with apple sauce and gravy covered Yorkshire pudding. It arrived piled high and covered with two large slices of pork. As we started the meal, I tried to put my fork into my potato. It was too hard for the fork to be inserted. At the same time, my sister in law was removing all hers onto a side plate, together with a burnt offering that turned out to be crackling. My wife is a slow eater, and was about to tuck into another item, the stuffing, which was also overcooked. The parsnips wee undercooked, and the Yorkshire's apart from mine which was fine, were very doughy. That was when we all started remarking about the poor quality of the food that we had been served. At the end of the meal, with plates stacked with uneaten food, the waitress who asked if everything had been OK, was very surprised to be told it was not. In fact it was diabolical, and the chef could do well to take lessons from the transport café at junction 35a of the M1. I did say it was not her fault, was very unusual, and that the bill should reflect the quality of the food. To be fair, anyone could have an off day, and this was the first we have had at the Lamb. Our complaint was duly recognised by us only being charged for the drinks and starters. The waitress was very surprised to get a tip, but when she was told it was only for her and not for the chef, a big smile lit up her face. When I complain, and it is recognised, I will usually give a restaurant another chance. I have never before had a poor meal at the Lamb. Perhaps later in the year we will try again. The photos show our plates at the end...

We've just returned from 4 nights at The Lamb Inn. We had a fantastic room - really cosy and clean with a lovely little patio outside. Our room was cleaned every day and they always left a nice little surprise for when we got back from a days walking - biscuits, sweets etc.

The staff were all lovely, really friendly and helpful. They worked so hard.

The food was, on the whole, fantastic. We ate there 3 nights running. The first two nights were great, however the meal we had on the Wednesday night was like we had gone to a different place! I know there was a change in cook that evening but my husband ordered the same meal I had had the night before (because it was so nice),it came out looking and tasting completely different and my meal was overcooked and stodgy. It looked like no effort or pride had gone into the dishes at all - so disappointing after the previous meals. We had to ask for more rice as the portion was tiny.

I would love to have given this place a 5 star and can understand the many 5 star reviews as it was beautiful, perfectly situated to explore the Peak District and the staff were lovely.

However, the first night we were there they missed our restaurant booking, despite us getting an email to say it had been booked, the restaurant was so busy, it felt that they overbooked each night (due to the covid half price offer) and they often ran out of meals and the disappointing meal on...

Friendly staff but the food wasn't great and some of our tableware and glasses were dirty. Wouldn't recommend and won't be returning.

Firstly it's on a high speed road and you will want to slow down as you get near because it's easy to miss the turn. The car park has some potholes so take care to avoid them when crossing it in the dark after rain. I couldn't see a way in which would be accessible for wheelchair users, so if you have a disability you may wish to call ahead to check. The inside is an olde style pub with all dark wood furniture, exposed beams and decorations to match. We visited with a few family members, they had the lamb Henry and a burger which they appeared to enjoy. Although the portion was good, it seemed expensive. We had a lentil and squash salad and a peanut tofu curry which were not appetising nor tasty. The tofu was undercooked and in large sections so was unpleasant and tasteless because it had not been prepared at all. The lentil dish just appeared to be a full tin of lentils on a few slices of butternut squash with a "dressing" which was was exactly the same as the mint raita you get with poppadoms. There were remnants of food on my cutlery and worse; at the bottom inside of my glass which I noticed as I finished my drink and not a small amount. The desserts...

First time visiting The Lamb Inn today and I enjoyed it very much. We were greeted at the entrance and given the option to sit indoors or outdoors. As it was a nice day, we opted for the latter. The outdoor eating area is nicely done, if not quite finished yet. There is some noise from the adjacent road, but it's not too intrusive, only the occasional motorbike drowning our conversation. I tried the grilled sea bass with prawns, which was cooked perfectly, very tasty and nicely presented with broccoli and a mature cheddar rosti. I added a side of sweet potato fries as an extra. Dessert was a delicious sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. The portions were just right for me to feel satisfied and have a completely clear plate. Watching other people's orders being brought out, everything looked really good. I hope to return soon to try more of the menu. The staff were polite and efficient. Happy to help, but not constantly asking if everything is OK, which I can find annoying. The bill was reasonable for such a good meal. Will be recommending this place to others as somewhere to eat out.

We visited for the first time today and found the food to be superb and the service excellent. The pub is located just off the main road with some truly stunning views. It wasn’t a particularly nice day weather wise but that didn’t detract for the beautiful view. We were greeted with a friendly welcome. We’d called ahead to book knowing that these kinds of places can easily book out. There were lots of rooms with tables and decorated in traditional styles that were in keeping with the building. The central coal fire was also very welcoming from a dreary day outside! We found an extensive menu with so much choice. Everything from sandwiches and soups to steaks, pies and other pub favourites. I choose the lamb Henry and was not disappointed. The lamb fell off the bone and the mint gravy and mash were perfect accompaniments. My husband opted for a ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce that he thoroughly enjoyed. The portions were also very generous so we felt it was great value for money. We couldn’t fault our visit and will definitely be visiting again.
