We came with my 90 year old Aunt (in a wheelchair), my parents (76) teen (16) myself and husband. 3 course Christmas Dinner booked for the Saturday before Christmas Eve at 3 o'clock Car park has good disabled bays , road down from the car good, entrance with ramp. Door a little narrow , but accessible with wheelchair. Table ready for the 6 of us, nicely done and Christmas crackers. 4 of us had gone for the 3 course set menu, 90 year old and 16 year old went off menuo , but they were happy to sort, nothing was to much trouble, staff would give 110%!! Took orders, food arrived, starters fabulous. The soup and bread was very tasty and bread warmed.Prawn cocktail was delicious and the spicy balls (can't remember name 🤣) the teen & hubby loved. Then 5 of us had the Christmas lunch .... all I can say is wow. Vegetables cooked to perfection, everything hot, mash so smooth and tasty, turkey was plenty, roasts amazing and for the pigs in blankets beautiful. Asked for an extra gravy boat ( as parents said there is never enough) but really didn't need. My parents had been to a posh hotel in Congleton with my sister and said this meal was so much better than that!! That coming from my mum is high praise indeed!! Staff great, kept asking if all OK, do we need more drinks .... honestly well impressed with the service. Left us some time before desserts came, good job as omg , were truly fabulous, sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce, Christmas pudding, then Apple & cinnamon crumble with icecream. Wow .... hot & we all said how delicious they were. We've not been to this lovely pub for many years. It was cosy with the log fire, inviting, nice Christmas decorations, excellent food and staff. Would HIGHLY recommend, we can't wait to return. And what they have done outside looks fantastic for families, young & old. Hope to return for a Sunday Lunch very soon... Thank you all at The...
Read moreWhere to start? Thanking our lucky stars we were able to stay here in our hour(s) of need! Everyone we spoke to was personable, welcoming, and so friendly from the very first phone call; and it was like a weight lifted off our shoulders the second we walked in. The rooms are lovely and comfortable (the beds are wonderful and so are the pillows so ignore that other lunatic); yes the showers aren't like a pressure washer, but considering the amazing work done in a listed building, the electric showers are plenty. Rooms are spacious, fresh, and have loads of storage, and they manage being pet friendly without it being noticeable in the rooms. The building is set in beautiful grounds and I can't wait to see it in the summer, though it even had its charms whilst being battered by 80mph winds and driving rain. The passion and interest for the mill's history held by everyone that works here was infectious, and it was great to find out more about the historic site. Now, on to the FOOD. We sadly weren't able to enjoy the breakfast, but we ate here on two evenings and everything was delicious (and arrived with us promptly). Hands down the best burger I've ever had. I've never eaten anywhere that's managed to produce a burger that shows complexity of flavours without creating either a sloppy and/or tasteless mess as the end result; but the chef here did it perfectly. All the ingredients are fresh and tasty, and the menu is put together thoughtfully with something for everyone. The chap working front of house was an absolute legend and gave us great recommendations; and along with the owners made us feel so welcome. So glad we're local and can't wait to come back again....
Read moreWhere do I start? Everything exceeded our expectations from start to finish. The friendliness and hospitality of the staff were second to none from being met at the door, to asking about dinner options in the area on a Sunday evening, to extending our room for an hour. Outside, the layout is very pleasing to the eye, with two separate playgrounds - one within a large gated area housing chickens and geese, through which a picturesque stream runs. The rooms were large and immaculate, with what looked like all new furnishings and fixtures. Our friends took the balcony room which had a large balcony covered in astroturf with a beanbag and table which would have been perfect for group chilling if we had a bit more time! It had an amazing view of the waterwheel and Basil the resident goose. Our room was the family room, which had a double and single bed, and a spacious bathroom including a vanity. Each of the rooms contained a tiny fridge which housed a complementary pint of fresh milk for our teas and coffees. The complementary cooked breakfasts were very clearly cooked using quality ingredients, which was apparent in the taste, and the presentation was equal to that of a trendy city brunch spot. Every aspect of this Inn felt like it was done with great deliberation and consideration for the enjoyment and comfort of their guests. This will be my go-to place to stay in the Peak District for...
