I got there at 9am, and maybe it was a little too early. Behind the glass display by the till was less than a quarter full, so I purchased a Hikers Flapjack. I really struggled with it as I hiked up above. It’s not bad, and to be fair, it did keep me going, but it isn’t something I’d rush to buy again. Same with the butter flapjack
There were a few other people in there happily enjoying their teas/coffees etc and whenever i’ve walked past previously, it’s always been active with people.
I have tried to go before a little later a previous day, and the purchase options looked much better, but the queue was huge (not the cafes fault, I just ended up behind a group of charity hikers).
My advice would be to go any time except opening time, and you’ll get more options. It must be a decent place looking at the reviews, and it was a nice place to be in. Well lit, comfy without being squashed sort of vibe. I just went too early I think
Edit 25.03.25 (original review written a week before)
Had a response from the owners. Seem genuinely nice people who really read the review, and made some positive comments in return, like they’ll be opening earlier to 8am, as will their Bakers I haven’t yet returned, but just because of their genuine enthusiasm, understanding and kindness (and earlier opening hours!), I will definitely go back one day, just because of the...
Read moreThe friendliest café I've ever been to!
The three staff in this café are the most welcoming people I've ever met, with a genuine smile to answer any questions. Nothing seems to be too much trouble, and they all clearly love what they do. There's free WiFi, clean toilets, and a cozy vibe that make for a lovely pitstop.
It's a stone's throw away from a play park for the little ones, and just next to the main car park; the café is card only, however they kindly carry a stock of change specifically for getting cashback for the car park, which is cash only (in this day and age...).
They also have a little information leaflet stand in the corner to nosey through if you're at a loss for what you want to do with your day, and by the looks of the fireguard next to the log burner, it looks to be a warm and cozy stop on a cold winter's day...
They also sport a huge raised deck area to the side, and a small picnic-style set of tables out the back. Dogs are welcome, as are walkers with empty water bottles; as I say, literally the friendliest café ever!
Definitely worth a visit, and we will certainly come back next time we...
Read moreSuch a beautiful wee cafe ran by such friendly local people... Both the food and drink was of an extremely high quality as was the service... The cafe and the surrounding area outside were immaculately clean and well kept, provoking feelings of relaxation and welcoming to the village considering the cafe is the first thing you come to after exiting the train station and the last thing you see as you leave this wonderful village of Edale... Just like the rest of the village, this establishment is ever so friendly and the Coffee is fantastic! I recommend the coffee to any coffee lover as it is freshly brewed REAL coffee :-) I would like to thank Chris Reid and his team at the Penny Pot Cafe as not only does it bode a fantastic welcome to Edale but also a fond farewell till next time... Fantastic to have this establishment by the train station and certainly a place anyone visiting the village should check out for a wee break, bite to eat and a refreshment... The staff are also a wonderful source of...
