What can I say, really big let down! Came here twice before, once in the outdoor area, and once in the restaurant area. Food was good, and service was brilliant on both instances, and has a lovely, up-market pub atmosphere to it (people dress up and really make an effort to look polished, that kind of vibe). The service I received on Sunday the 18th was completely different. We decided to ask for a bar area table on our third visit, as we just wanted a quick bite and a glass of wine, and it looked like a lot of people & families queuing behind us wanting a table, so as it was just the two of us today, we were happy to leave one of the tables to some other clients, and get a smaller table in bar area (which serves a smaller, limited menu for that area). While we were speaking to a staff member at the entrance, I looked to the bar noticed and noticed a staff member, a beautiful, slender, blonde girl, with a sleeve of tattoo on left arm, lovely fake tan & fake eyelashes, basically a stunner - but my god, what an awful manner and attitude! I found her at the time she was giving me an icy side stare, god knows why! Anyways, the girl that welcomed us was lovely, and gave us a bar area food menu. We ordered straight away a bottle of wine, and after 5 minutes went to till to order food. While I sat down, same woman that was giving me the side stare kept on looking at use while pouring pints, and honestly, if looks could kill, I would have been pulverises! It was 17:45 and I got up to order at the bar some food. I was welcomed at the till by the woman who was giving me an icy stare earlier on, who seemed to be the person in charge on the day (saw a few staff members going to her and ask for support when they were not sure how to answer clients queries at the bar). She told me “oh, don’t think we are allowing food orders anymore, we are very busy today and have a lot of big tables, and the kitchen will be busy, so we are not sending orders anymore, otherwise you would be waiting 12 hours for food, sorry!”. I though it was bizzare, and was obviously speechless, so I just retaliated with “oh really?”, and she answered “yeah sorry”, smirked and walked off. I though it was really wrong they accommodated us when we made it very clear we were here for food, to then tell us you were “no longer accepting orders” at 17:45?! Baring in mind this was a bar order, which was a reduced menu. What made it worse, at 18:05, I saw a couple of lads ordering beers, they ordered food by a different server and got their order though! I am not quite sure what happened with the service that day, but gosh did it leave a negative impression. I felt mortified, humiliated, embarrassed, and disrespected. I am sorry but I feel like I no longer trust your staff to be fair and provide adequate service at your establishment, so I make the regrettable decision of no longer attending your premises in the future - especially as competition has more polite and fair staff working, like the nearby San Giovanni. Take care, and hope you choose your staff more carefully in the future - talking about your blonde lovely looking, ill tempered, rude server with...
Read moreService was non existant and what little we did get was bad. Took my mother for lunch as we couldn't do anything on mothers day. On arrival we asked if we could sit outside as it's such a lovely day, we were eventually told by the server who clearly didn't understand what we were asking that we could, but we would have to come in to order from the bar, not a problem. So i went to the bar to be told we couldn't eat outside unless we ordered from the bar menu which was mainly sandwiches e.t.c again, no problem we decided to sit inside as we wanted to try the full menu, came in to be seated, the waitress basically gestured to the restaurant in a sort of sit where you like kind of way and left us to it. Time passed. No one came to take our order so i went to order at the bar. Swordfish with sweet potato fries and roast duck with dauphinoise. The food comes out, no dauphinoise which basically meant i was given a near empty plate with two slices of duck on it with some sauce. I asked the waitress who pretty much said ok and walked off, i assume to go and get some. No apology, no explanation, nothing, so i sat and ate what little there was, to be fair the duck was good. The waitress then appeared as i had almost finished with a grey congealed block of potato. It was rock hard around the edges and had clearly been made last night and microwaved in a hurry. For the best part of twenty pound, not ok... We finished our food, thankfully my mother enjoyed hers at least. At this point however i was very clearly unimpressed with my meal, id decided to leave last nights left overs and basically just had the two pieces of duck. After looking at the desert menu we decided not to bother and waited for someone to come so we could ask for the bill. We continued to wait. More time passed (i ought to point out that there were only 3 other tables and not what anyone would describe as busy). After this i got bored and just went to pay at the bar, i wasnt asked about my visit, i said to the young lady at the bar could i pay please as it doesnt look like anyones coming with the bill, the person who im assuming was the manager or owner kind of glanced at me but nothing was said. Long story short lunch was pretty dissappointing and for saying they didn't even provide table service extremely overpriced, i dont mind paying for something nice, hence why i went there in the first place but the service was a joke unfortunately and put a downer on what should have been a...
Read moreI had read a couple of reviews on here before my visit which were not very encouraging, however I went with some friends so decided to give them a chance. I am Coeliac so require gluten free options. I called the restaurant ahead of my visit to explain the situation and also to ask what would be suitable; sometimes this can be an awkward conversation to have around the dinner table so I thought it was better to be prepared. The person i spoke to on the phone assured me I would be catered for and I could pick anything from the menu and the chef would take out the ingredients containing the allergens; everything is fresh so it was not a problem. All sounded great, so I was hopeful.
Anyway, when it came to order, I chose my dish and asked for a gluten free version, and I made sure I was clear with the waitress - who said she would go and check with the chef and come back to confirm everything was ok with my order. She didn't come back and when she bought out the cutlery I asked whether my dish would be ok - she just looked at me blankly and said yes.
My dish came out and it was not a gluten free version, there was gnocchi on the plate. I asked the waitress if it was gluten free - and she said yes and so I said but it has gnocchi on - could she please go and check my dish was gluten free. Another waitress then came out to say my dish was not suitable, the gnocchi was made from potato and wheat. She took my dish and said the chef would re make it to be suitable for Coeliacs. Eventually (after everyone else on my table had eaten) my dish came out - the fish was now black around the edges and I was served a bowl of plain potatoes on the side. The waitress did apologise and said she told the chef to make it suitable.
To be honest, Turpins are very lucky my allergy is not life threatening and I noticed the issue. If this was a nut, fish or milk allergy this would have been a very different and potentially fatal situation - something I am sure Turpins would not want to inflict on someone.
After all that, I was left feeling uncomfortable and not confident in the food I was served, a truly awful experience. Made worse by the fact I had even taken the time to call ahead to make sure they were aware and prepared. Clearly the staff here need training on allergens and also...
