Wish I had followed @Black Bear lead. You were absolutely right not to visit. Portions are far too small for the price. Everyone was offered table service I wasn’t, not sure why? Note to the cafe; it wasn’t nice sitting having my lunch and customers knelling over my table to view the cakes. I paid £19 for my meal, view the picture… ** In response: I was approached at the counter on arrival, if I was ready to order, clearly I had just arrived and wasn’t ready! I had to ask for a menu, even then I wasn’t offered table service or a seat. I stood at the counter for a while before I ordered. Everyone else was offered a seat on arrival. Re; Cake arrangements I was seating having my lunch, while the owner/waitress kept reaching for customers cakes. This is not a great set up, why should I have to move? I think the cakes need to be placed elsewhere… I just wish who ever replied to my review would have the decency to reflect rather than wanting to be right. Very unprofessional and rude!

I followed a small cafe sign from the main road and discovered this gem of a cafe. The barn has been restored perfectly and the food tasted wonderful. I had a tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad from the specials board. With five different types/colours of tomato it was divide. Afterwards, and as the main was so good, we choose to get cake. Though Guinness cake was a first for me I can't recommend it enough, it soon became a talking point in the cafe between the other customers who also where trying it for the first time. Considering the quality I thought the price is good. In short I can't recommend this cafe enough, a hidden gem.

The cafe is in a beautiful setting with ample seating both inside and outside. The ladies were welcoming and friendly, with a good range of food and cakes available. There were also dairy free and gluten free options - not just one, but multiple options! The coffee is served in a cafetiere and is delicious. I had the sausage and haggis roll which was fresh, warm, and very tasty. A very delightful cafe, with great food and coffee. Highly recommend!

It’s Jan 2019.

Looking forward to a simple snack after lovely walk

Parked up , wow! Lovely walk to the top of the Downs with beautiful surroundings, to be greeted on my return by a very poorly run lottery funded Tea room , over priced for such a poor service provided. Nobody is expecting cheap food and expects to pay a reasonable price for two coffees, 1 soup and Two bread rolls £11.45, paid and sat down in barn area, sat. And sat .... And sat ... Very incompetent staff who were chickens running around with their heads cut off. How hard is it to provide simple soup and coffee ?

Looking around thinking maybe I was the only one not served after approx 35 mins we then noticed that most of the people were in the same situation and were now commenting on the wait time for such simple food and couldn’t believe how long they were waiting , We were in no rush but hey! we could have made coffee and soup for all these people and served it up in this wait time. Did they not stock enough food ? Did they not think it might have been busier than normal with New Year’s Day walkers ?

We asked for our money back and left. Needless to say we will not recommend you or return

Very disappointed

The food was delicious and beautifully prepared and the setting is pleasant, however portions are very small and I consider prices high for what it is. We also had a problem with using the loo. I ordered food and then went to use the facilities. There was no loo paper or paper towels in one cubicle and the other cubicle for those with a disability had a few sheets which I used up. I raised this with our waitress when I got back to the table. My wife went back at the end of the meal but still no paper of either kind. She asked staff for help and had to wait several minutes waiting for it to appear. Also be warned, the toilet windows in the disabled cubicle have clear windows at waist height right next to a path with an unobstructed view for any walkers onto what you are doing! Extremely embarrassing as I...
