Closed for 4 years between 2012 and 2016 after the previous landlady passed away, this pub was a sad loss for the local community. Since moving to Horsham in 1995, it had been a regular stop-off for me after a round-robin bike ride from Horsham, up to Rusper and back via Wilmand Lane (with the exciting final steep descent to the pub being the highlight). But refurbished, reinvigorated and reopened by the new owners in 2016, the Frog and Nightgown retains much of the 'front-room' charm of the original pub, while providing comfortable surroundings, gardens, good beer choices and an unambitious, but functional food menu. The first time I went into the pub in 1995 I apologised to the landlady seated on her sofa, as I thought I had inadvertantly entered her front room, rather than the bar. A couple of uncomfortable metal chairs and tables out front was the beer garden. More often than not on my visits I would be the only customer there. Not so any more. I think the absence of the pub for 4 years has made everyone who visited before realise what a treasured asset they had lost and they are determined not to lose it again. Regular special events have drawn a wider clientele. The Tea Rooms have widened the appeal even more. Now on a sunny warm summer evening, it can get quite busy here, so much so that I have once or twice cycled right past the pub by on my ride rather than face the struggle to get to the bar for a drink and find a free table in the garden. For those looking for a gourmet menu (currently it is ploughmans, toasties, pork pie or scotch egg), or an oak beams and thatch country pub, or pub-chain style decor and layout, then pass on by. What you get here is a much more idiosyncratic offer, nothing like as eccentric as it was before, but still unique. Make the most of it while you can though, because Liberty Property Trust now have planning permission to build 2,750 new homes in the land very near by, which will likely alter the country setting of the pub...

Food was pretty good but service severely lacking. We had a reservation and turned up exactly on time. Shown to the table which had dirty plates on it from the last people. We were seated and plates were cleared in front of us, table was not cleaned before fresh cutlery was piled on the middle of the table. Was then left for about 15 mins, before the waiter returned and asked us what we wanted to order. Problem was, we hadn't seen any menus! Waiter returned with menus and then left us unattended, nowhere to be seen, for 40 mins. I had to go up to the bar and ask for service. Our waiter's colleague came over and apologised that our waiter had gone on a lunch break... food ordered and took slightly longer to come out, around 30 mins. Food was good, however my pizza had a piece of blue plastic film on the base which I fortunately spotted and didn't eat. Informed the waiter and she apologised which came across as sincere. Staff were pleasant, just slow and service felt disjointed. Nice food but I don't think we'll be...

On Saturday, we had table booked for 4 people inside the restaurant. Initially when we arrived, the staff were polite and friendly. We ordered drinks and then decided on what to eat. We ordered 2 starters to share and chose 4 different pizzas for main. The starters arrived fairly quickly and the prawns were delicious . Plates were cleared and we then waited a further 45 minutes for the pizzas to arrive. When they came we were slightly disappointed with the appearance as they looked thrown together with ingredients scattered across a pizza base. If you like rocket salad, then you will love it, but far too much for us. There are no prices on the menu and they just ask you to pay at the tills. I thought £125 was expensive for what we had, and still have no idea how much each pizza costs. We won’t be going back to this...

The Frog and Nightgown is a charming countryside pub with a relaxing and welcoming ambiance. Its rural setting makes it a lovely spot to unwind and enjoy a peaceful meal away from the hustle and bustle. The staff were warm and friendly throughout our visit, adding to the overall positive experience. The food was enjoyable and competitively priced, offering good value for money. However, we visited during a particularly busy time, and this did affect the service, which was slower than expected. Additionally, parking was a bit challenging when the pub was at peak capacity, so arriving early or off-peak might be advisable. Overall, The Frog and Nightgown is a delightful spot with character, good food, and a friendly team. It's worth a visit—especially for those looking to enjoy a relaxed countryside meal.

UPDATE- Visited for lunch today and sat with a view of the fields. This place has so much potential. £10.50 for a jacket spud with tuna! WOW this is the most expensive jacket I've had! Called up to check what menu they were serving as there is tea room menu and pizza menu to be told its the tea room menu and that this changes daily. Come on management, this needs sorting out. All in all had a pleasant lunch. Visited here today for lunch. It is a charming old country pub with no frills. The garden is large with benches and unbrellas. Take a menu grab a table and order at the bar. Inside is very small but cute and it's a tea room and pub. We had a panini which was £8.10 with a small garnish and few crisps. Not cheap by all means but very nice. Service was friendly and super quick.
