This is a new review, as Google won't let me do a new one for some reason 🤷♂️ My wife and I went to this pub a year ago, and it was OK, not great, but, being the only pub in the village, and we were staying in our motorhome the other side of the village, no other choices, The landlord of the pub comes across as a friendly guy, but he's not, he's arrogant and rude, He read out the specials for the day and we decided to have a beer in the garden to look at the menu, within 20 minutes, the pub got a bit busier, so decided to order, I was awaiting my turn, and at the time, I know only 3 burger and chips, and a table of 3 had ordered, the landlord then got behind the bar, and said to me "no more food orders, as the chef is getting confused " ,firstly, I wouldn't rate him as a chef, the food wasn't great last time, and secondly, if he's confused after such a small amount of orders, get more chefs 🤔, I went back to my wife, to see what she wanted to do, and within 10 mins, more people came out, having been to the same, although a table of 6 posher people came, the landlord accommodated them straight away, even asking 3 locals to move from their table to accommodate them in the shade 🤬🤬, whilst we were there, I recon the pub lost at least £300 in just those 10 minutes, so think poss a couple of grand on one of the hottest days of the year, We will NEVER return to this pub all the time this person is in charge, and if revived inn's have any sense, and want to turn this pub around, get rid of the landlord, get someone else in, plus a chef who can cook, the staff where nice but the landlord...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews, but I was so disappointed in this pub in the middle of such a pretty village. We had high hopes. First of all the toilets were absolutely filthy and normally I would not have stayed, but we were hungry after a walk and thought we’d still give it a go. The menu was basic but the landlord told us about some specials, so I chose the homemade fish cake. It came very quickly, was huge and completely cold in the middle. I asked him to take it away and I wouldn’t bother with anything else, as I could already see that my husband’s ciabatta didn’t look very appetising. There was a very small apology and when we paid on leaving, the landlord was stood right next to my husband and completely ignored him, with no apology for our experience at all. All in all very shabby and such a shame for what could be a great pub in a beautiful village. I just don’t understand how something as simple as cleaning the toilets and serving decent food can seemingly be so...
Read moreWe had not visited the pub before, and popped in for a lunchtime snack. The food we ordered was fine, a couple of toasted sandwiches, and a SMALL glass of white wine, and a HALF pint of beer. After we had eaten, my wife decided to have a cappuccino before we left. On asking for the bill we were told it was £23.90 which seemed rather high, but I paid it. Then after speaking to my wife, we decided that we should check with the barmaid as the bill WAS NOT ITEMISED which I think should be standard practice. On checking, I discovered I had been charged for a pint, not a half, and the white which was a small glass of Pinot Grigio had cost £4.70. We did not query the wine but got a cash refund for the overcharge on the beer, but think that we were probably charged for a LARGE white wine. All in all a disappointing visit. We would think twice about revisiting unless there was...
