A long review with real life experience. Interesting, full of contrasts. I promised myself to visit this place after spotting it from the road during the COVID days of 'eat out to help out' when searching for a 'Well' in Church woods, Fittleworth. However, when we visited the first time afterwards it was closed for refurbishment. Anyway years later I finally tried it. It turns out to be next to a beautiful grade 1 listed bridge spanning the river Arun. Built in the 1400s and altered in the 1800s with a little history from the War of the 3 Kingdoms ( English civil war ) and WW2. Unbelievably carrying vehicles until 1986 as the main highway between Pulborough and Stopham/Fittleworth. I reserved a table and visited the Pub/restaurant on a hot sunny Sunday at the end of June 2025. The road leading down had lots of cars parked on the left hand side and the carpark was almost full. A scooter/motorcycle club had taken up some of the spaces. The pub has indoor seating and an outdoor decked area to eat plus tables at the entrance to the bridge. To order food, you have to walk up a flight of steps to a very small bar area inside. I decided to eat outside at the decked area beyond the carpark. I ordered a White Hart burger ( no extras ) and a Crayfish risotto and two drinks and paid by Visa card. I was given a table number cube. Note: Amex is not accepted here. The decking had plenty of glass topped tables but a lack of parasols that meant half the tables being unoccupied because of the strong sun. The food took a little time to come out but the view of kayaks and paddle boards on the river Arun was a pleasant distraction. However, only the Risotto was brought out by the young waitress and quickly left. Thinking the burger was on the way I didn't think to question her at the time. The plate seemed to be the star of the show rather than the portion size. Although it was very tasty it didn't take many mouthfuls to finish. As the waiting staff had become allusive, I took my plate back to the bar and asked the sheltering waitresses where the burger was. They went to the kitchen to investigate. I went back to the table. After some time the person who took the order came to the table with the chef's ticket that didn't have the order on it. However, I reminded her of the conversation of not wanting extra bacon and cheese at time of ordering and she realised she must have not entered it on the Till. After her apology I re-ordered the burger at the bar with her sister who added the extras for free for the inconvenience. The food arrived and was tasty but the portion size was very large compared with the risotto. A bit of inconsistency. The price of the risotto ÂŁ21 compared with the burger at ÂŁ17.50. I noted the waitresses serving were struggling to carry plates to the diners on the decking, dropping fries on the way and dropping a mayonnaise dip on the deck without cleaning up, an obvious slip hazard. In conclusion. Tasty food but a bit pricey for some dishes. Lovely historical setting. Needs a carpark camera and registration inside the pub to ensure the parking area is used for the customers and not the kayak and paddle boarders for an hour or two ( will guarantee a purchase ). A larger more accessible bar for customers and the staff to work at. Read back the order to confirm all the items have been inputted. A little more attentiveness by the waitresses, they would realise if there were any issues or missing items. I know in this part of the globe we don't like overbearing staff but a realisation of the mistake would have happened sooner and not resolved an hour afterwards. I want the place to thrive, so hopefully these issues are far and few between.

Shocking. Had two bad experiences (2 out of 2) within 2 years time, so thought it is about time for a review! 1. Two years ago booked Sunday roast to make it special for my family visiting from abroad. Booked in advance and asked if we shall pre book food too (they said no they will be plenty). We all wanted beef on the day. Only one option was left (4 of us) and it took ages and was cold and just simply not good. 2. Thursday 14 Aug. Thought to give them another chance as we were around. After paddle boarding on the river we have arrived for some light food and a drink (13:20). Got a drink at the bar, asked for the menu, asked how we shall order (at the bar) stressed we will come back. Back in 10 minutes (13:40) to find out the kitchen has closed at 13:30! No warning whatsoever, apparently they decided to close the kitchen as only one person working there and. If we knew there is no food we would no bother with a drink and just go somewhere else. The table next to us (they arrived same time with us) got served so we asked if we can get two starters at least, but no. Then people who arrived after after us (cause they got kids) also did get their food ! Watched food being served while we were NOT allowed to place the order - absolutely horrible service. Do not bother making your way there for the location and the view id you don’t want to be disappointed and leave hungry!!! Tables disarranged, dirty, the umbrellas broken. And the river side patio is accompanied by sewerage smell. Honestly something got to change at this place, what a mess!

We discovered this little place purely by chance at Christmas time, a smallish pub, probably about 20 metres long and about 4 metres wide set next to Stopham Bridge and the river Arun. A little reminder that good things do come in small packages. It has a timeless charm, original features, log fire etc, most importantly a warm welcome. We stopped today for a quick lunch. Soup and a sandwich I thought. Soup of the day was spicy tomato and my sandwich of choice was ham with piccalilli on brown bread. The soup arrived with an onion bhaji and naan, the sandwich with chips and a salad. Eagerly dipping my onion bhaji into my soup, it was delicious, a lovely soup that would warm the coldest heart on this very cold winters day, it was a joy. The sandwich, had chunky slices of ham, home made piccalilli and fresh brown bread, all home made, all fresh, all delicious. Talking to the chef, he clearly has a passion for what he is doing, Explaining that the soup has a Goan influence with spicing learned over years from his partners mum. I'm interested to find out what else he has learned over the years. It's little gems like this that I will happily return to time and again. I think curry night will be an absolute belter. A good selection of wines too, including one from the local estate that proved to be a perfectly acceptable glug.

A Memorable Riverside Retreat with Outstanding Roast at The White Hart, Pulborough!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The White Hart in Pulborough with some friends and our children, and I must say, it was an experience that exceeded all expectations. Nestled next to the serene river and blessed with a picturesque bridge, this charming pub proved to be a delightful retreat for all of us, including our furry companions.

Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the tranquil ambiance and scenic beauty surrounding the pub. The sight of canoes gliding by on the river added a touch of enchantment to the atmosphere, captivating both young and old alike. The fact that we were able to bring our beloved dogs along made the experience even more enjoyable, as it can be challenging to find such welcoming establishments.

Now, let's talk about the highlight of our visit—the food. We opted for the traditional roast dinner, and boy, were we in for a treat. The succulent roast, cooked to perfection, was nothing short of divine. The tantalizing aroma that wafted from the plates as they arrived at our table made our mouths water in anticipation. Tender slices of meat, accompanied by a medley of flavorsome vegetables, crispy roast potatoes, and a rich, velvety gravy, created a symphony of tastes that left us craving for more. It was an absolute culinary triumph, it truly was the pinnacle of restaurant-cooked roasts.

Not only were the roast dinners exceptional, but the children in our group also had a fantastic experience. They relished the burgers they ordered, devouring them with enthusiasm. It's heartwarming to know that The White Hart caters to younger palates as well, ensuring a well-rounded dining experience for families.

The service at The White Hart was exemplary throughout our visit. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and accommodating, making us feel welcomed and valued. They were quick to address any requests or queries we had, and their warm demeanor added an extra layer of hospitality to our already wonderful time there.

Lastly, I must mention the idyllic setting. Dining next to the river, with the graceful bridge as our backdrop, was an enchanting experience. The combination of nature's beauty and the pub's cozy ambiance created a unique atmosphere that was truly unforgettable.

In conclusion, The White Hart in Pulborough is a gem of a pub that excels in every aspect. From the stunning riverside location and dog-friendly policy to the exceptional roast dinners and delightful children's menu, it offers something for everyone. The outstanding quality of food, coupled with impeccable service, makes this establishment deserving of the highest praise. If you're in the area, I highly recommend paying a visit to The White Hart for a memorable dining experience that will leave you...

REVIEW HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WHITEHART PUB BUT MORE ABOUT REINSTATING OUR FAITH IN HUMAN KINDNESS...

This is going out to Ed and his trusty canine companion that was defo for sure a Springer Spaniel...

So...let me tell you about a #Man&HisDog đŸ•đŸš¶â€â™‚ïž

We needed somewhere to stop, and our continued driving to #Everywhere&Nowhere, we felt it was time for a little bit of a pit stop....didn’t quite realise it would turn into such an oddly peculiar occurrence...We pulled up alongside the main road, kind of just were you turn off of the main road, turning left...(the opposite turning to which the WhiteHartPub is situated) ...there was a little #DirtTrack ‘sitting’...Just quant enough for my partner and I to waste time reaping the benefits of the earlier purchased ArtificialMotivationaEnhancements by doing nothing more than sitting, next to each other...him in the driver, me in the passenger side (May I Just ADD...) both on our #ElectricalDevices for....Let’s just say a good few hours #WaStEd...of our lives....

...

Only to find out, that somehow, the battery had died on the car!!! đŸ€ đŸ˜« đŸ˜” We only realised from that desperate sound of the car trying her damndest to give us nothing but a heart breakingly pathetic excuse of an empty CLUNK as the engine refused to turn over. Several CLUNK’s in, turning everything off, forgetting, plugging phones back in... she still looked at us with the look of desperation in her ‘daylight running lights’ each one simultaneously slowly dimming with the last bit of juice that was forcefully ejaculated through the engine... as she CLUNK’s again...

So...she’s dead, lifeless, without power, an “Ex Parrot”...no more. She’s a 2.0L turbo diesel, 195BHP dream to drive, warp driven Speedfreak of an everyday small family car 🚘 with no chance of bump starting. Our only options now being call for help to one of the leading breakdown assist companies like the AA, #otherbreakdowncompaniesarealsoavailable , of which we’re not subscribed fee paying members to anymore, or try, at 00:45, to flag down a passing motorist that might just by chance have some jump leads and be willing to lend their leads, car, time and trust into a 6’4” random bloke with a toothless grin stood almost in the middle of the road and a northern accent to boot, to stop and bail us out of this self inflicted predicament. The first attempt and the first car to pass was a triumph, only because they stopped...Not because they had jump leads, time or, I think, trusted me enough to help.

Second attempt and second car to pass, again, a triumph!...as it also stopped; didn’t have lead but offered an honest promise that, my new biggest hero yet, to date... Gallantly introducing himself,...
