I’ll start with the positives - The pub is beautiful inside and out, the setting is gorgeous especially on a sunny day by the river. The staff were all lovely and very helpful, I didn’t get our server’s name but she was really fab and did her best to resolve our situation. Food comes out very quickly and is presented well and the drinks / general service is also very quick which is great. Portion sizes were also good.
Unfortunately however the food was extremely disappointing. The Sunday roasts looked fantastic when they came out but they lacked seasoning, the roast potatoes were hard, not crisp at all and very dry as if they weren’t fresh, the Yorkshire was nothing but air, there was not enough gravy and we were told the stuffing had been replaced with pigs in blankets which is fine by me, however one tiny sausage which was so dry and shrivelled up that you could barely tell what it was, was quite disappointing considering it’s £20+ per roast! Another table in front of us asked if their roast was a kids portion because of how little meat they got, So we were not the only ones left dissatisfied.
My partner ordered fish and chips, our waitress confirmed it was cod which I do not believe. The fish had a very muddy foul taste and we sent it back, they kindly brought out a fresh one, but it was the same and inedible. By this time everyone else had finished their meals, so my partner did not feel like he wanted to wait for a 3rd dish to be cooked, and decided to leave.
This was a rare meal out for my dad’s 70th birthday. It was so disappointing and I’m left mortified after what was supposed to be a special time as a family.
I have no idea how this pub is so busy if this is the quality of the food, maybe it was too busy for the chefs to cope with and as a result, sub-par food was...
Read moreWaited at the eating area on arrival but nobody came to greet me so went to the bar to be told to go back to waiting area. Same person who served me at the bar then came over after serving a few more customers at the bar. The lady who appeared to be a FOH manager or bar manager seemed stressed and had a lot of work to do. I was shown a table and a few menus were placed down and then I was left to it. I was surprised at some of the high tables being full of rubbish that was then blowing around in the breeze. There was mo explanation as to how ordering worked, but I saw that people were not being served at the table so went to the bar, youngish fellow that served me seemed stressed also and unfriendly. Food itself was a bit lacklustre and not really much better than one of the lower-end chain pubs. But the lack of any kind of warmth or friendliness from the bar staff was very disappointing in a rural pub, I travel and eat out a lot and normally enjoy pubs like this because they have a good atmosphere and friendly staff.
The pub and grounds are lovely and I might have just caught them on an off day because the review for service seem to be glowing. But I probably won’t return as I felt the service was similar to that of somewhere like Nandos. I’d suggest spending a few more quid and going to the Bridge Hotel where the food is better and the service is in a different league to this place. Overall felt quite disappointed on leaving.
On a positive the waiters seemed a little more personable and although were busy did smile and seem somewhat attentive.
First impressions can only be made once so an unhappy greeting or none at all can really set the tone for the...
Read moreFirst the setting was lovely. However, the building needs attention, the windows are dirty, needs some painting and decorating, and parts inside look tired and unloved, example, ladies and gents restrooms.
The waiting staff were all lovely. However, there was over an hour delay between starter and main course, of which the waiting staff kept us informed., considering we were the first in the room, everybody else had been served before we were even told there was a delay for us, and some people had even had their food and paid and leaving before we got our main courses, which was unacceptable.
The main courses were disappointing, one of the diners, never got his salad with his vegan lasagne, the lasagne was luke warm, and had obviously been standing around for some time. One of the roast dinners, had 'two' pea, and a teaspoon full of leak, 1 small roast potato, and the majority of veg was carrot and roast parsnip, one of the other roast dinners, had no potato at all.
The puddings were disappointing, the puff pastry apple pie, looked like a flat pizza base with sliced apple on top., the base was hard and almost inedible.
For the price points for these meals which is higher than most, for what we got, frankly we would have done better at Wetherspoons was the comment of 3 of the diners.
Whilst the delay was acknowledged and a discount off the bill was given, and that we had travelled an hour an half to get to you, we were very very...
