August 2022 Well this time 7 of us cycled to the Ductchess for a meal and usually 3-4 pints of real ale, but they had two real ales on and for a free house they had green king doom bar and ghost ship (Adams) two of the biggest brewers around. Both were off. So we decamped to The Three Tuns Fen Drayton, where one of the beers were off, but non of the beers were from the large breweries. the photo of the beer taps was from The Three Tuns
That was 3 years ago. 2019 Well what a change for the good. I used to come to what was called The George, but it now called The Dutchess. This pub has a huge garden with a new covered area, a large conservatory with plenty of dining space for large and small groups. They had four real ales on, one was near to the end and not at its best but the 3 were very good. They had a good menu and has a Senior citizens menu which we took advantage of. The portions were not fen sized which was refreshing. But the food was very well cooked and tasty. Would definitely come...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSometimes in life you stumble upon a gem, today was one of those days. Popped into the Duchess on our way to an appointment, asked if we could just have a coffee as a wet sat lunchtime, certainly was Lucy's reply & she quickly brought them to our table where we were seated in the bar. We asked to see a menu & said we'll pop back as it was a lovely pub & people enjoying mtg with friends also busy in restaurant - all very convivial. We returned an hour later to order a bacon, brie & cranberry wrap which came with chips & grn salad, I asked for one without bacon & Lucy politely asked the reason , told her I like my bacon 'cremated' she said "we can do that for you". We both enjoyed our lunch & drinks .Everything about this pub is great, well trained staff, tasty well presented food, smart decor & pristine toilets. Best experience we've had in a long while- well worth a return visit,...
Read moreMy favourite pub is the scruffy types with cheap beer and familiar faces. This is not such as pub. Instead it is a quality pub. Above my budget for regular drinking but perfect for an occasional gathering. Not the widest selection of drinks (ales in my case). But a very good selection of the greatest hits. The whole place feels high quality. Beer is circa £4.50 per pint, crisps £1. At the back there is a conservatory for finer dining for 50(ish). And a large outside area of benches to the rear. Well behaved dogs welcome. Parking for maybe 50 cars but these are hard to find at busy times. Wheelchair accessible at the rear bar though there are two steps leading down to the front bar. Marginally cheaper and it would be 5 Stars. UPDATED. Real ale from...
