I cannot believe what we have just eaten! What an utterly disappointing waste of time and money! We visited for a Valentines meal on Sunday hoping for a Sunday lunch.

We ordered a coke each which was not fizzy and clearly watered down so it wasn’t off to a great start.

We both ordered roasted shoulder of lamb and after a 40 minutes wait with only 3 other occupied tables we received a bland, uninspiring reheat. We had to wait a further 5 minutes for the mint sauce to arrive despite requesting this when ordering and reminding when served. Despite the lamb being described as a shoulder of lamb it fails to mention it’s a lamb confit which surprised us. The lamb had absolutely not taste, flavour or seasoning.

Only had 3 measly potatoes which were clearly old accompanied by a pair of limp carrots and parsnips. Cabbage was served but this was clearly old and was reflected in the taste.

We ordered cauliflower cheese which had clearly been microwaved as the ramekin which it was served in separately was a furnace to touch but luke warm everywhere else. Furthermore it was tasteless and bland.

The whole meal had clearly been reheated at least once and had absolutely no taste. It was only just warm when served and cold before finishing. The ingredients were clearly old and of poor quality.

If you’ve made it this far, I think you’ll understanding by now that I shall not be returning to The Paper Mills and would highly recommend avoiding. This meal was a bitter disappointment and we come away feeling hungry and robbed.

While eating we were asked how the food was but did not mention these points as there is nothing the server could have reasonably done to redeem this awful experience and I’m not the sort of person to take it out on a server as it is not their fault. The experience was ruined by this point and we just...

Starters were ok but our mains were shocking. A confit duck leg was a drumstick. Under seasoned accompaniments. Shame. It used to be good and trying to support local business in this current climate of high bills and uncertainty. It was spat on by the manager and the chef tonight. It is hard when they rob you for the sake of it.£70 for a meal that we couldn't eat. Feel it for that lovely woman who took our complaint but it seems other diners tonight had the same issues. I won't be going again and I suggest you take yours elsewhere, at least somewhere where you're appreciated.

I received a response. It's shocking. How hard is it to say you're sorry??? To be told that 4 other tables had the duck is such a lie. There were 3 tables dining at the time. One complained about a burger. A burger. Trust me. I'll never come to your establishment again. I'll make sure all associates stay away too! The lovely and honest waitress who took our complaints told us we weren't the first. The lies you tell yourself won't help your business. Good to know that you again took the decision to blame a customer rather than admit your error. If four people ordered duck legs and got drumsticks and thought nothing of it, that says more about them than you thinking it's good to serve. Keep going like this and I'm sure it'll go well...

What a night !!!!

Came here for my wife’s 50th on a Saturday night and it couldn’t of gone any better. Emailed ahead to book for 9 and did the pub have wheelchair access for our friend and was told it would be no problem.

My wife and I arrived 1st and my surprise which was her friends from Essex turning up. The owner steve made us all welcome with some great banter and had us all laughing. The rest of the family arrived and we were shown to a great table in a section of the pub we had to ourselves. Steve then gave us a bottle of champagne for my wife’s birthday which was lovely and we all enjoyed it.

The service and food was great especially the starter of pork cheek which a few of us had ordered. I had the rib steak steak which was cooked perfect for me. Most of us had pudding which everyone loved as well.

Completely full of food and wine we stayed till the end of the night in a great atmosphere and the drinks flowing.

Massive thanks to steve and the team form me and Jen. Couldn’t of asked for anymore from...

Fabulous food, beautifully presented. Staff friendly and helpful. The menu is really interesting and marks the GF/V/VG options. It is a modest range of dishes but they have tried to cover some staple favourites with interesting variations. It is gourmet food with the focus on flavours and modest portions. Ample for me but those with a large appetite would probably want to order a couple of sides. The central part of this place is the bar with seating at the back and around the old whitewash walls inside. Lovely setting and spot for a pint or some fancy food.

The first meal I had was excellent, as shown in photographs. Staff and location are excellent. I came back for the Vegan Sunday dinner option. Bland slop with zero texture. The last thing I would ever have expected from here. I would have been a very regular customer if not for this. Such a shame. I like to pay for quality. The favourite meal of my every single week was an unexpected failure. I love my food. Such a shame. All I can say is that it's not vegan friendly but otherwise beautiful in every way.
