This is the best pub/ restaurant I have been to in a long long time !! I’m gluten free and vegetarian the food was amazing in fact so good I had no room for pudding so will be coming back again to try it 😀 . The pub is accessible I’m disabled and came in my manual wheelchair they provided a ramp and accommodated my friends and I as a group of eight up in the bar area which was fully accessible I’m so so greatful as the restaurant is down stairs so thank you again for making this meal possible . It was my birthday and the staff were amazing so kind and generous of their time no pressure to order as they allowed us time to settle open pressies and then order food. There is an awesome number of dishes and desserts that are gluten free and vegetarian such a rare menu to find in such a lovely setting the quality and the fact the kitchen was happy to replace the ciabatta to gluten free toast so I could eat the garlic mushrooms. My friends surprised me with a Birthday cake once’s again thank you to the staff for helping and to the lovely people in the bar who joined in with my friends singing happy birthday to me I was truly blown away in every way and the food was amazing quality everyone loved their food we all were so happy and can’t wait to return and leave room for pudding this time !
On accessibility Fully accessible for standard manual self propelled wheelchair or transit wheelchairs but for example a class 3 electric wheelchair like a quantum edge 3 wheelchair it would not be possible to get that inside dues to size of chair and room to manoeuvre safely in this lovely pub . You may be able to fit a small box electric wheelchair in but check the measurements first .
They have a stair lift as well for access to the second floor facilities in the pub.
Truly a rare gem of a place and really feels like the heart of the community set in beautiful countryside with great view seating outside as well .
Great staff friendly...
Read moreWe dined here today at around 6pm, we didn't book but was lucky enough to get a table. It got very busy, very fast. The food is ridiculously good. We chose all our choices from the main menu, though there was a 3 course for £17 menu available. The menu is very reasonably priced. Everything was looked and tasted amazing. Food; Price 5/5 Presentation 5/5 Taste 5/5 Speed 4/5
Waitress 5/5
Bar staff, 3/5 Polite but Flustered, Slow and had to leave the bar to get ice for every drink. Increasing wait times.
I do have a gripe I must mention, the bar and the restaurant seem entirely separate entities. We couldn't order drinks with the waitress at the table. I had to walk into the busy bar area and wait inline to order drinks. This really hindered our dining experience.
We had finished our first drinks just as we finished our starters. The mains arrived. We then had a choice, eat the food hot without a drink. Or queue for a drink and the food will go cold. This unfortunately was really awkward for us.
Overall, I would highly reccomend the Dog inn. The food is without doubt on par with the best in the Blackburn.
A tip for future visitors, ensure to order at least two drinks prior to entering the restaurant. So you can avoid the dilemma we experienced.
EDIT: Since this visit, they now offer table water and the dilemma now doesnt exist. Changed rating to 5/5 as...

Leek and maris piper soup was hot and delicious, the truffle oil was a welcome twist on a classic dish, highly recommended, rich and creamy despite being vegan and not having a trace of butter anywhere to follow was the Sage and Butternut Squash Risotto, three words, TO DIE FOR, perfectly cooked risotto, fresh peas, pieces of roasted butternut squash, and the garstang blue cheese was incredible, melting through the rich creamy rice, perfectly seasoned and every forkful a delight. to accompany my perfect and i impress upon the word perfect risotto i had a portion of triple cooked chips. crisp, fluffy and without a trace of grease, absolutely incredible quality cooking! to follow these culinary triumphs i opted for the Banana Parfait, served with blackpool berries, homemade honeycomb , dark chocolate and caramel sauces from this weekends special menu, and although the parfait wasn't as light as i expected it to be, the natural banana flavour was incredible!, the honeycomb was crisp and melted on the tongue like good honeycomb should, sweet and tart berries and bitter dark chocolate complimented the sweetness of the parfait perfectly.
my most sincere thanks and compliments to Mark and Jamie well done. i will...
