Visited king Lyn with a friend and daughter. Place is nice old tradition pub and clean. Service is good from the bartender and young girl but not another lady who served ours foods. Food was rubbish just good looking but you could get all these from local restaurants with half price cheaper. Over price for quality. I dine out weekly around Norfolk Suffolk. Fish and chips £18 frozen fish not fresh and disappointed uncook! Cold with ice inside and raw fish served to my daughter! At first I didn’t know and she doesn’t say anything but i noticed she tried to cut the fish and the knife won’t go through i checked for her and found it raw! She ate the corner bit already! If it chicken this could be dangerous. We had fish and chip a starter and 2 fruits juice it cost £40 my friend had a starter and orange juices it £15. The starter look good but chef doesn’t know how to roasted the bread. It hard and tough like rubber it not crisps to bite through. I never have been know any place including street foods who can’t cook the bread. If you know what it feel like roasted the bread and leave overnight that’s what we had. I gave all to my friend as I could not eat it. For the price and qualify from frozen I wouldn’t visit again. You could have a great meal with the Ivy restaurant with better of everything and...
Read moreWent for dinner prior to going to the comedy club at the corn exchange. Had a great meal - can thoroughly recommend the slow cooked pork with the most crispy skin/crackling - so yummy! My friends had fish and chips / king prawn and crab linguine. Both said they were fantastic. Oh and we shared ox cheek arancini balls (so very yummy) and bread with curry butter - which sounds odd but really works - another recommend!!
The staff were really nice and accommodating to us constantly changing our minds about where to sit / when to eat etc and they kept us on track to getting to the comedy club on time despite us nattering away and loosing track of time!! Lovely people.
The theming of this pub is brilliant. You have to see it to believe it, but you feel like you’re boarding a very old naval battleship! It’s fun and full of character.
I don’t drink beer (I’m a wine person - Sauv Blanc was lovely) but apparently the beers on tap were good and they’re both beer lovers - so take that as a recommendation too!
Thumbs up all round. Thanks, looking forward to...
Read moreIt is great to see the Crown and Mitre open again. They could never replace Roger behind the bar, but it's still a nice place to be.
We nipped in for a couple of drinks while staying at The Globe Hotel in mid-November 2023 and here's the thing.
The Globe sells decent real ale and wine. A pint, a large glass of wine and two packets of crisps was £7.73. These days that's dirt cheap. In my local village pub, it's typically just over £12 for the same. In the Crown and Mitre last night, it was £17.70! The beer was £5.20 a pint, which is on the high side, but just about okay. So what on earth is going on with the wine?
I don't mind paying a fair price, but that is really taking the mick. I fear that with their huge competitor fifty yards away, if they keep on charging those prices, the place will soon fall silent again, which would be a great shame.
I can recommend them as a really nice place to visit (the food we saw looked good too), but unfortunately, we simply can't afford to drink there...
