Had a wedding reception there, 15 people, pre booked months in advance. Menu's sent out and meals chosen with the menu's returned to the resturaunt so they had a list of who wanted what with ammendments to work from. pre quoted just over £500 with the understanding that alcoholic drinks would be an extra charge. Arrived and things looked promising, staff was cordial and attentive. supplying sofe drinks and coffee while we waited for the dinner to start. 4 members of the pre booked party did not end up attending. Starters showed up and we were asked "who ordered what"...most at the table didnt remember what was even on the menu from months ago, so to no surprise as it turned into an auction where the server said "prawn cocktail" ?? or "garlic mushrooms"?? you had to guess what you may have ticked on the menu way back when you first saw it. 2/3rds of the way through the starters my wife questioned the server about what happened to the menu's that we submitted that they got their list of food from? Bit of a blank stare then you could see the light go on....Server left and came back with the actual menu's that ere submitted. Just to find out that some of the ones that had already been handed out were different than what was ordered. On to the mains, the bride ordered the chicked wrapped in bacon and barely ate 2 bites before pushing the plate away from her. chicken was dry, there was some kind of red cabbage on the plate that they tried to get fancy with and went very heavy handed with cinnamon for seaoning in it. was not plesant at all. Mother in law was supposed to have haddock with fondant potatoes and green beans and a white sauce ( she had requested no sauce on the menu ) the plate turned up woth haddock, roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips and cress drowning in sauce.... Mother in law did not want to make a fuss so she scraped the sauce off the fish and ate it leaving everything else untouched on the plate. at this point the staff were asked to cut and portion out the cake, boxes were supplied when the cake was dropped off so we really didnt think this was a "big" ask. First the server said they cannot cut the cake and they did not have any boxes to put it in.... My wife is the one that dropped the boxes off with the cake, so, where were the boxes?? The server went and found someone else to ask and a few minutes later the other person went into a back room and pulled out the large box containing the cake boxes my wife dropped off. Servers still unwilling to cut and portion the cake, my wife went up and started the process. during this time the desserts started to arrive. for some reason this turned into something like an auction again as the servers seemed to be bringing too much of one and not enough of another. when 2 vegan something or other went unclaimed we had one of the most rude members of staff make an announcement ( yes an announcement, he didnt just pull the organizer "my wife" to the side and ask her a question) he stated that " soemone ordered this and you will have to pay for it regardless because it is wasteful, all the while the people at the table looked over their menu's and looking at the tick marks on the items they ordered. nobody saw anything with the items they were trying to push. My wife, getting near the end of her rope by this time, took the 2 desserts from the server and set them on the table as it should not have been an issue but this rude server decided it was time to make a stand for "food waste" for 2, 3 inch round desserts. by this time everyone was getting a bit tired of this establishment. we finished up eating and started filtering out of the resturaunt. the groom had pre paid about 1/3rd ahead of time and went to settle the bill....only to find out they tacked another £200 onto the bill as they decided ALL drinks were extra and they added an extra surcharge onto it. Great way to end an already bad experience. Kudos, they are not equipped to handle...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing experience at Marriott’s Warehouse. Despite booking a week in advance with a set menu and time, the service was appalling. The starters were nice and unique (Salmon and soups), but there was an hour-long wait between starters and mains. It was clear the kitchen staff hadn’t received our order, as they looked confused when asked.
The servers were lovely and tried their best, but the kitchen staff were clearly overworked, which reflects poor planning by management. For nearly £300 between 6 people (£37 per person for just two courses), we expected far better. Along with this the mains were lack luster for the price point. Along with the beef being chewy and some vegetables still being hard due to being undercooked.
Adding to the frustration, we were moved to a cramped area near the front door because a DJ was setting up, despite our arrival at 7:20 and the DJ not starting until 9(which wouldn't have been an issue if they served us in a reasonable timeframe). This area was awkward, disruptive, and a potential fire hazard.
We received no apology from the owner or compensation for the experience. Even after raising concerns, the only solution offered was a move to an upstairs table after we were already seated in the uncomfortable area. This was supposed to be a special family Christmas meal, but the poor service and lack of care ruined the evening.
I would not recommend Marriott’s Warehouse to anyone. A meal at this price point with such bad service is unacceptable. We won’t be returning...
Read moreLove this place, if you want to enjoy a coffee or a meal by yourself or with company somewhere with more history than you can shake a stick at, this is your place. It's very welcoming with fabulous service. I had a quiet evening coffee upstairs on a comfortable sofa. I've not eaten here for some time. There's plenty of outdoor seating for you to enjoy. The facilities are very good and well kept. With a lift to the upper floor where facilities include an accessible toilet. I was able to enjoy the view across the River Great Ouse to West Lynn. It's a great way to watch the spectacular sunsets here. Marriott's Warehouse Trust cares for the historic warehouse and models of King's Lynn's heritage buildings, carefully crafted by Fred Hall and on permanent display on the 2nd Floor. "The building known today as Marriott's Warehouse dates from the 1580s and is Grade II* Listed. The name is taken from the Marriott brothers, who owned or leased several granaries on the South Quay in the latter part of the 19th century. Between 1550 and 1700 most of the warehouses along the Ouse bank were rebuilt in brick, but Marriott's Warehouse retained a lower storey in stone, possibly from the dissolved Friaries. It was an important warehouse for trade in salt, beer, wine and building materials. Ships would dock inside to unload cargo, its stone lower storey protecting against the tides as it stood out into the Wash, long before the quayside was built...
