For me Mem's is an idealism in local dining in a small independent restaurant. I dined alone and wasn't expecting such a perfect experience after wandering the centre of Kings Lynn looking for a place to sit down in the rain. Greeted by three really charming women who were beyond attentive and sensitive to my needs. I was soaking wet and half covered in paint as I was in town on an art working job. I was quite surprised at how many tables were being used considering it was a wet Tuesday evening and the town centre was so dead It could have been a set for 28 Days Later. I tend to find a well attended restaurant incredibly reassuring to see as someone unaware of the local places to eat. Although the restaurant was fairly, and understandably, busy they found me a small table out of the way. After a non excessive conversation I was recommended a meal by the server and all of the staff were helpful with my little peccadilloes and requests. The restaurant itself is simply but beautifully decorated, obvious attention had been put into the aesthetic but it didn't at all feel showy. The lighting is particularly delightful in the sense of setting the right mood and it was clear that every patron was comfortable and enjoying the environment. Many diners were celebrating birthdays, anniversaries etc in little groups and it was heartwarming to be in a place where so many people were so genuinely happy to be there. I personally feel this is the mark of a restaurant that has been designed with the diner in mind rather than for pure money making or stroking a chefs ego. As for my meal it was a generous and truly delicious portion of grilled chicken tagliatelle. A great recommendation. The only thing I would potentially change is switching the rocket for a spinach but that's a particularly personal nuance and didn't take away from the meal. I was totally unrushed and allowed to dine in my own time while my server was being well attentive, a rarity when dining alone. The price was reasonable, in fact I thought it had been wrongly calculated on first glance. As someone who often gets utterly rinsed on eating out in places that are subpar it felt like I'd won a local lottery as Mem's ticked every single box and more. I grabbed a brownie on the way out, which I highly recommend as a chaser for dinner, and cheerfully wandered back into the rain with a full belly and a warm heart. Thanks to everyone at Mem's, you're a credit to the town of Kings Lynn. In fact the town BID should be looking to the way you run your business and using you as an example of...
Read moreI was very much looking forward to dinner at this place. The atmosphere was cute, the music was nice, food was good, but the service was horrible! we were a group of 4. One waitress took our drink and appetizer order and brought our drinks. Another waitress came to take our food order. The first waitress brought our food, I asked about our appetizers, in a matter of few minutes, she said the following 3: you did not place that order with me, you placed it with someone else, no you did order it with me, but you gave your dinner order to someone else and she didn't tell me the kitchen is already closed It will be a new order now; I will have to bring it after you had your dinner we didn't choose who to give our order to, it was whoever that came to our table to take our order, it should not interfere with receiving these orders. It is not the customer fault that two different people came to take our order The kitchen was not closed, we were at restaurant for at least 2 hours and during these 2 hours new people came and ordered food and received food I understand that we are all human and forgetting orders could happen, but If a server forgets an order, the right thing is to apologize and place the order and bring it as soon as possible and not come up with series of incorrect excuses Although I really liked this place and was hoping for a regular hang out place, I am concerned about the very...
Read moreVisited the Saturday Market restaurant on Thursday 19th for a belated birthday meal for 6. We were shown to our table and our drinks order taken. We all decided to have a starter and most were ok but the chicken skewers 2 of us had were dry and therefore a bit chewy to eat. The mains then followed for 5 of us but they had neglected to cook the order of seabass. We waited a few minutes to see if it would appear but it didn't. The matter was brought to the attention of a waitress who came and checked and then the original waitress came and had a look to check and then went off to the kitchen. She then came back and apologised and said they were now preparing the dish. We had all nearly finished our mains when the Seabass eventually appeared. Again most dishes were ok but Seabass fillets were thin and very small and hidden amongst a lot of rocket. We decided to leave desserts and were presented with a bill for just over £185.00 which was on the high side for the quality of food and service given.
Having heard so many great things about Mems 4 of us left disappointed and the other 2 were happy with their meals.
Not a restaurant we will be returning...
