Pretty appalling service that got in the way of me enjoying anything this bakery had to offer. Came here after walking past and seeing the menu of baguette fillings you could get which sounded perfect for an easy lunch. Came in and waited in the queue of a few people which was absolutely fine, things were moving quite quickly and it wasn't too busy. As I got closer to the counter I realised there were a few baguettes already made but unfortunately all of them had meat fillings and as a vegetarian I couldn't really go for one of those. As the person in front of me left, I walked up to the counter when prompted and politely asked if I could get an egg mayo baguette. Now this is where I got a look that was akin to the same look I would have got if I'd have asked for one of her kidneys or something. The lady behind the counter barked that if I wanted that I'd have to wait until everyone else in the bakery had been served first and then stormed off leaving a very uncomfortable and somewhat hostile atmosphere. As I didn't really know what to do I just left feeling a bit embarrassed. Now, my issue is not with the fact of having to wait for a baguette to be done for me and if I would have been told in a more reasonable manner that I'd have to wait I wouldn't have had a problem. However, it was the fact that I was made to feel like an idiot for asking for a filled baguette that was advertised everywhere which made the whole situation unpleasant. Nowhere was it made clear that these baguettes were subject to availability and having a menu of fillings suggests sandwiches made fresh. Also, the way I was told that every other person would have to be served first made no real sense as for all she knew they could have asked for a similar thing, so to prioritise customers based on the assumption of a fast order despite me having waited in the queue for just as long as everyone else was ridiculous. All in all, if you're looking for your food served with a piercing glare and a blunt tone, then this is the place to go, and don't you dare ask...
Read moreAs others have pointed out, the lady running this shop is rude. Also, she can't cope with any payment, apart from cash and is unable to reheat anything.
We went in for two Cornish pasties, but came out with only one as my wife was not prepared to buy something from such an unpleasant person.
She asked where we'd come from (presumably thinking we looked like southerners) and we told her that we are locals. Her attitude changed slightly for the better then, so it would appear that she's also 'anti-tourist'.
The final note here is that I think she sold me a Cornish Nasty, as it didn't taste...
