The Three Horseshoes, Roydon: Where Sunday Roasts Meet Their Match
If you’re looking for a quiet, dainty meal that leaves you feeling peckish an hour later, turn around now, The Three Horseshoes is not for the faint-hearted. This pub takes Sunday roasts to a level that could qualify as an extreme sport.
From the moment you step in, the staff greet you and before you know it, you’re seated, drink in hand, staring down the most generous roast platter known to humankind. Plates arrive heaving under the weight of perfectly cooked meats, crispy roast potatoes, mountains of veg, and enough Yorkshire puddings to build a small fortress. There’s gravy. So much gravy. A glorious, bottomless sea of it.
The food is so good that you want to finish it all—but here’s the catch: no one does. You start off confident, thinking, Yes, I can do this, but by the time you’ve worked your way through half the plate, you realize you’re in deep. This is the food equivalent of a marathon. And without most tables leave clutching a takeaway box with enough leftovers to feed a small village.
For those who somehow find space for dessert (perhaps after a brief nap in the car park), the sweets are equally impressive. It’s the kind of place where you think, I’ll just have a bite, and then suddenly the whole thing is gone, and you’re considering unbuttoning your jeans in public.
So, if you’re after a legendary roast, fantastic service, and a meal that comes with built-in meal prep for the next day, The Three Horseshoes is the place. Just don’t make any plans that require...
Read moreThree Horseshoes Pub, Roydon I just have to share the lovely experience I had at this pub yesterday. We had a table booked for 6 of us, plus baby, for 1pm. I called at 11 asking about any vegan possibilities as the menu changed regularly and it looked very meat orientated. I spoke to a lady who I later found out was the manager (can't remember her name 🙈😭) who said they would put together a vegan menu for me by the time I got there. I arrive, my baby starts destroying everything and making a mess, they are extremely kind and welcoming despite disruptive baby. The lady comes out and reads me not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but FIVE different things on the menu that they have discussed and can adapt to me to make them vegan. I was overwhelmed with choice, and they were lovely choices. Offers ranged from a Thai burger, a sweet chilli stir fry, bangers and mash, a pumpkin and nut roast, and I can't remember the last one. I went for the Thai burger which was gorgeous, my little boy had the sausage and some of my chips as the portions are also HUGE, and my mum had the pumpkin and nut roast which was also gorgeous. Overall, the pub is lovely, the food was amazing, the service was great, and they went above and beyond what I expected. Highly...
Read moreI initially booked a table for 1pm a month prior as it was a bigger table, I then had a call to ask if it was ok to change the time to 2pm which I did as they said they were busy. I had pre-ordered the Sunday sharing platters for my party of 8 the day before, the order was checked twice once we arrived and the staff member got it wrong when repeating it back on both occasions. We then had to wait an hour before we got our main courses. Once we had finished we waited a long time before the table was cleared so ordered desserts whilst the table was being cleared in the hope they would arrive quickly, two of the party ordered coffees to have with their desserts. The coffees arrived quickly but we had to wait a further 30 minutes before our desserts came. I wasn’t overly impressed with the food but the service was appalling, it seemed like the kitchen couldn’t keep up with the amount of people dining and there were not enough front of house staff to give good service. I won’t...
