We chose not to cook our own Christmas Dinner this year, and were very happy with the plentiful and delicious food on offer at Heathfield Farm Carvery. The staff had all worked extra hard to make all their guests happy, with many personalised touches, including an individually hand-written Christmas card, gingerbread men and a wrapped gift for children in our party. The best thing was the happy atmosphere. The only little niggles were that one of our group - our Ukrainian guest - was left waiting ages for her starter, after we had all been served, despite our exact table order having been emailed well in advance, and my daughter didn't get the nut roast she had ordered. (I got mine, though, and it was absolutely my favourite - really tasty, and with a good texture) . I suggest they check orders carefully- make sure all serving staff are aware - particularly when there are vegetarian orders - so that when each table is called up to get their meal, they already have any special orders ready to go. Other than that issue, the staff were all super smiley and helpful. I loved the Christmas sauces (apple, mint, cranberry and horseradish) that were available on a separate table and that I was able to get a portion of creamy Madagascan vanilla ice cream at the table, even though my Marz Attack Cake was to take home with me. They were also very generous with the time slot they allowed - 3 whole hours between new groups of diners - so we had plenty of time to sit and enjoy our special family meal within a relaxing and cosy environment.

I've never had anything like it! I rang up and explained when we wanted to come and how many people, she explained the the kids play area was going to be refurbed and would be closed until the 10th of December so we switched from the 1st to the 15th and we decided to go in that evening have a meal (spent nearly £100) and book it. After speaking to the first person we asked we were then told that we werent allowed to book the christmas menu on a Sunday because it is their busiest day but we were allowed to book the normal menu, so before leaving we went to the bar to then be told we're not allowed to do that either (all this was said from the "manager" )so i asked if we could speak to her because the girl who we was speaking to was new and she kept having to go and ask her questions, the "manager" was very rude and cocky, in the end she said that she would get the person who is in charge of christmas to call me in the morning and let me know if we could do it ("maybe at 12pm or 6pm" to which i replied 12pm would be fine). It has been 3 days now and i still havent heard anything! Finally on Christmas menu it clearly states Sunday 2 courses £18.99 Please book in advance! Staff definitely need educating and an attitude check. It's such a shame because the carvery was quite nice but service was a 0/10 for me .

We'd booked some time ago, as a party of eight but when we got there, our reserved table was occupied by three people who were told they could stay there. We then got seated at a table for six and had to find two other chairs ourselves. I had the carvery, as did six of our party. The plates were cold, and the vegetables were barely warm and not very inviting; the meat was nice though. I feel that instead of having three types of potatoes, they should offer another vegetable instead, as the choice isn't as good as their competitors. The quality of the vegetables was very hit and miss; the sprouts were firm and fresh, the carrots looked inedible, brown around the edges, dry and wrinkled and the cauliflower and red cabbage disintegrated on my plate. The meat was very well cooked, the Yorkshires and stuffing were tasty too. We'd heard about their huge servings of dessert and decided to take some home; six of us did. We had a peak at someone's selection and they chose the caramel shortbread and a cake slice, both of which looked enormous and tasty. We got home having spent £11 on two desserts and were totally disappointed; the cake slice was ample, but the cheesecake slice was tiny! All in all, a very mixed meal but the staff (except the one who seated us) were efficient and very pleasant.

We had a family booking for 17:30pm. on 7th. March 2025 at your Birkenshaw restaurant. Upon arrival we were surprisingly led to a table right in the centre of the children's play area which was very noisy to say the least. Don't misunderstand I have nothing against children and having their own play area is a great idea but i seem to recall an option on your booking form offering the choice of either sitting in the family play area or not. What I couldn't understand was the meal was booked to celebrate a 71st. Birthday so it was not the ideal position for our table. This however was not the only problem, the table was not big enough anyway for a party of 9. We spoke to a member of staff who seemed to be the one responsible for table allocation who told us they couldn't help but would speak to a more senior member of staff. We were then informed that the table was for 8 people but that was all we had booked for and the table was fine and so we would not be offered an alternative. If you check your records you will see the booking was made for 9 not 8. this was confirmed back to me by email from your restaurant. As a designated 8 person table there was physically not enough room to seat 9 people anyway which made the whole situation a total farce. We immediately left the restaurant disgusted at the treatment and without dining. We had visited your restaurant on numerous occasions in the past, however being treated in such a RUDE and INCONSIDERATE manner, you can be sure we shall not be visiting again. But if that kind of I really dont care attitude is becoming the norm amongst your staff at Birkenshaw, they probably wont care anyway. P.s. Thank your staff for ruining what should have been a happy family Birthday...

9 of us booked for a family festive meal on 27th Dec, we have previously visited numerous times and always enjoyed great service and food, unfortunately this time we did not, and I would not have reviewed if the waitress had not been disrespectful! 3 of us ordered the prawn cocktail for starters, this was absolutely tasteless, not exaggerating there was no taste at all, I was unable to eat it! All 3 of us had the same experience tasteless and unable to eat it, when the waitress came to collect our plates I kindly mentioned the tasteless prawn cocktail and how unable to eat it, at first she just looked at me, then I said it needs feeding back to the kitchen, and she said she would and that was it! My son then heard the waitress telling the manager that a lady has just said the prawns were tasteless and laughing saying 'I should have just said well don't eat them' .. I am very disappointed with the lack of respect for me as a customer and for the food they are serving! The waitress did not need to tell me not to eat them as they were unedible! I couldn't eat it! But was kindly letting them know, I did not demand to not pay for my starter! I did not demand another starter! I just informed that the stater was tasteless!! I do not appreciate to be shown such lack of respect and will not be returning . Improve your staffs behaviour towards paying, respectful customers and improve quality of food been served! A very disappointed customer.. the prawns, salad and sauce were tasteless and the sauce was very watery.. and the waitress disrespectful to make that comment and laugh , and in the restaurant where it...
