Firstly the food was alright, there wasnt a lot of it (2 roast potatoes and 2 portions of Veg to share between 2 adults) but ill add more later.
Not the best experience we've had as a family. Staff were unwilling to move one table so the booking could all sit together as "it would mean taking everything off the table and putting it back on". We offered to do it ourselves but were still told no. Because we had asked this it seemed our cards were marked. We asked for drinks and they either didn't come or were forgotten about whilst staff ironed tablecloths!?
Other tables around us had check-ins once food was served and all guests were asked if they would like extra drinks whereas we had no check-ins meaning any extras we wanted we needed to either fetch someone or call them from a nearby table if they visited there. The food servers placed food anywhere on the table leaving us to hand out food between us which was a little odd.
We all had the food from the Sunday menu, the meat was cooked nicely but I wouldn't say it stood out from similarly priced restaurants. The Yorkshire puddings were good. Veg was undercooked and the roast potatoes were OK but only 2 per adult seemed very stingy. The portion of Veg served was probably about right for 2-3 people but we were a party of 4 on our table (7 on the other table that we couldn't be added to) so again small on the portion size.
Again the "second class citizen feel" came back when it was time for desserts, other tables were asked if they'd like to see the dessert menu. We simply had a menu placed in front of us and asked "where should we put the children's menu? " when they came separately. A different waitress took the dessert order and she seemed much friendlier so perhaps we just had the 2 Christmas temps as their knowledge of what they had and didn't have also seemed a little lacking.

Wouldn't recommend experiencing this one unfortunately.
Just as an FYI the children's menu will only be served to under 9s. One of our party didn't want a roast and asked if they could order 2 lots of the steak from the children's menu (which would've worked out roughly the same as a roast from a cost standpoint) but was told "erm not really it's only for under 9s" this isn't printed anywhere on the website and would not have cost the restaurant any extra to do and seemed a reasonable request from a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor a small, local pub the food is excellent and 5 star quality, however this sometimes also means that the portions aren't as generous as they could be and things you would expect to be included are extra. (I'll give an example further down the review)
The menu is a great size with enough choice but not so much that is confusing and too much to choose from. There is also a specials board.
On this visit there were 5 of us and myself and my partner had the 10oz Rump steak and chips. After reading the menu I had assumed that all steak dishes came with a Portobello mushroom and tomato. I even asked the waiting staff to not put a mushroom on my partner's plate as he doesn't like them to which they noted down.
When the meals arrived there were no mushrooms or tomato on either plate which I questioned. I was informed that these 2 items are an extra cost to the meal and would I like to order some. Now I don't mind paying for extras and I did in fact order some for my meal but I was confused as when I requested no mushroom for my partner when ordering the food it was never mentioned that these were extra and was just noted down. Either the staff need to be trained better at listening to customer requests or better at explaining things.
The 10oz Rump is £22 which is reasonable but to then charge an extra £4 for one mushroom, one onion ring and one half grilled tomato on top of that is asking far too much in my opinion and should be included as standard, as is the case in most restaurants that sell steak. Pus another £4 for a small offering of peppercorn sauce
Three food however is exceptional and the desert range is excellent. It's just all a bit on the more expensive side and be aware of all the extras as they soon add up.
My 10oz £22 steak cost £30...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTo start off, I would like to say if I could give lower than 1 star I absolutely would. The food was alright however it wasn't excellent. The service was utterly dismal, it took an hour and a half for the food to come out once weād ordered it and more towards 2 hours from walking in. They brought the wrong steak out and after 3 trips up and down the stairs with the steak with different staff members, the manager eventually came and ended up practically forcing the steak on us hinting that the other steak would be 25 minutes and if we were sure we didnāt want this one while it was here. Once we had our food we didnāt get checked once by a member of staff and no one even walked past the table which ended up meaning one of us had to get up midway through eating and ask for sauces and drinks which should never be the case in any pub or restaurant. BUpon explaining what we werenāt satisfied with to the manager, she responded saying sheās sorry to hear that but sheās only the manager. So that was a bit of a shock to all of us so I canāt see the front of house team performing any better anytime soon with a manager like that. Behind our table there was also other tables complaining about the terrible service and no apologies made seemed sincere whatsoever. All in all, we had been booked in for months for my mothers birthday as we heard good things and ended up leaving incredibly disappointed and under no circumstances will we ever be...
