It's hard to fully put into the right words that convey the full experience that I had on a rainy Saturday night's tinder date. I should have taken the off duty barmaid's 'warm welcome' as a sign of things to come. Whilst enquiring with said Tinder date and her choice for opening drink, we discussed the availability of Sailor Jerry's (other rums are available) and to my surprise, a young 'lady' on the customer side of the bar interjected into the conversation and exclaimed that 'no we don't stock it'. Naturally, being an inquisitive gentleman with a desire for clarity, I politely enquired what she meant by the term 'we'. This is where my evening took a turn for the worst. Her retort was swift and will no doubt stay with me for the rest of my life: 'I work here', delivered with the sort of snarl I wouldn't give to the very worst dictators of history. The words alone sadly don't do the story justice. With a quivering bottom lip I carried on with the rest of the evening... As the clock struck 10pm, it became clear to me that this master of customer service was destined to further ensure that this harmless Saturday evening rendezvous would be memorable for more reasons other than good chemistry between two singletons. As I approached the bar for my third fruity cider, my gaze was drawn to the hero of the story once more, as she had inexplicably lost an item of her no doubt carefully chosen attire and was sporting some sort of lacy garment. I was unsure if this normally forms part of Saturday service at the Sands House or if this was an attempt at making up for her earlier transgression. Either way, I was perplexed. Luckily, the rest of the evening with the aforementioned tinder date went well and we're getting married next week. I wont be enquiring with the Sands House for catering availability (although credit where credits due, the food looked...
Read moreWent to The Sands House for some lunch with the in-laws and was pleasantly surprised. Never been before so it was nice to see something different on the menu. We had garlic mushrooms on toast and prawn cocktail for starters and I was so impressed with the presentation I forgot to take a picture lol. The toast was a baguette, not just a slice of bread. And the creamy garlic sauce was amazing. The prawn cocktail was as expected the portions were very nice. We had fish, chips and mushy peas, chicken kabab and chips and lamb stew and mash. The chips are home made and very nice, the fish was massive, chicken lovely and tender. I was struggling to decide between the beef and lamb so ask our servicer what she would recommend and she said the lamb. I am extremely happy I asked, because the lamb was so tender it melted in my mouth and the mash was very nice too. We visited in the afternoon so it was very quiet. The prices were reasonable too, I am definitely going to return and I will be recommending this place to everyone.
Part 2: visited Sands House again 12.03.24, at about 12:30, four of us for lunch, they have a 2 for 19.99 deal on through the week. It was a bit more busy today, not so tranquil but we could still hear each other talk, we had 3 starters 4 mains and 1 desert, 2 juice's and 2 cups of tea and the bill came to just over £70. We had to wait a little while for our order because it was busy, but it was worth the wait. The lady that served us was on the floor on her own again but seemed to be able to handle things nicely with patients and understanding. Very happy will...
Read moreWe went here for a carvery and was told we had to wait until the chef got it ready which we found strange has it had been on a few hours, 40 minutes later we was told we can go up and queue.
The food itself was a real let down, the beef was inedible it was very pink and soggy (I wouldn't even feed it to my dog), the Yorkshire puddings tasted very greasy and quite strange, the roast potatoes had that strange taste also, the mash was lumpy with hard potatoe chunks and the gravy wasn't very tasty either. The best thing on the plate was the broccoli which is saying something.
When asked how our food was twice in the space of 4 seconds quite abruptly.. feeling rushed to answer, my mum said 'it's fine' as she's not one to complain where as I said 'I don't like mine' but as I was saying it she went OK and walked off.
When another waitress came to clear the mostly full plates she never questioned why or asked if it was OK, so I told her I didn't enjoy mine and neither did any of us and that was all 7 of us, she said sorry about that and I also explained to her about the waitress before that table checked us but nothing was done about it.
I have been here in the past a few years back and it was half decent but its gone really downhill since then. There was also lots of drinkers at the bar which made it hard to get past to pay for the food.
I won't be returning here, and I would recommend others to pass...
