My husband and I paid a visit to the newly refurbished Travellers Rest and yes it was very nicely furnished quite a shock to see the carvery all ripped out and all the rooms run into one especially the snug is no longer a snug as such. We were seated straight away and handed a menu, the menu was quite basic so we chose a Sunday lunch. The restaurant was a little busy, but we didn't think we would have to wait long, but we ended up waiting half an hour yes half an hour. We only saw a couple of meals come out of the kitchen so why the lengthy we just don’t know, we wouldn't of minded as much if someone had of come over and told us why the lengthy delay. As for the service it looked like there were only two young ladies along with another lady not dressed in a Travellers Rest top, another thing I noticed was that one of the young ladies had hair that was well down her back and was not tied back in any shape or form, this is a no-no when working in and around food. She definitely wouldn't have got away with it with the previous owners or any other restaurant or catering establishment it really needs tying up right away. Right back to the food the Sunday roast was kind of mish mash as the roast potatoes, meat, Yorkshire pudding and turnip and carrot mash all came on one plate and then a small pot of garden peas, a pot of very nice gravy and a dish of carrots, cauliflower and broccoli came later. What came plated up was ok apart from the roast potatoes which were rather small and very very greasy add to this a pot of vegetables that were all cold and rock hard!!. I couldn't eat much of the meal it’s a good job my husband has a good appetite although he left quite a bit of the meal which is so not like him at all. When it came to desserts which I'm a great dessert person we were told two of them were not available and I really didn't fancy any of the few choices that were left. Whilst we were eating two tables were left with all the plates etc on them the people had vacated them quite some time before the lady in the none Travellers Rest noticed and asked the young ladies to clear it, as it certainly didn't look good to someone walking in which my husband and I witnessed, we saw two couples come in they looked around only to see several tables piled up with dirty plates, glasses etc, not good at all. You know what they say about first impressions or if you find something good you tell ten people, find something terrible tell a hundred people.... My husband and I are not sure if we will return maybe one day when they get the place up and running. On a good note it was so lovely to see all the rooms run into each other (at last) it was tastefully decorated and plenty of staff on the bar oh and the toilets have had a refurb too and not before time either and last but not least the beer garden was nicely done. I’d like Chris & Alex to adhere what their motto says “there are no stranger here just people we haven’t yet met”, which is lovely and we wish them all the...
Read moreBarely arrived on place, the outdoor area was amazing with a wonderful view on the fields and landscape!
My wife and me enjoyed a lot the surroundings and the quiet atmosphere of the place. Then we came inside and the indoor was very lovely, super cosy ! The staff was very welcoming, smiling, with a lot of attention!
The waiting time for the food was very short, and you can even enjoy a drink outside admiring the landscape in between each dish which is very pleasant!
We ordered some shrimps bites, cheesy balls and halloumi sticks as starter and they were really good !
The main course was exquisite!! I ordered the mashed potato with the typical British pie and peas served with an excellent gravy sauce I couldn't stop!
As a french traveller I was looking for typical English meal and I am not disappointed at all !
My wife ordered the barbecue pizza and she liked it a lot !
Every dishes are made with fresh products for sure and you can feel it in the taste! Very delicious lunch!!
I highly recommend this place for anyone who would be looking for a place with excellent quality food , good welcoming staff very lovely and quiet place to eat in peace ! The price was very affordable for two as they have many formules that make it cheaper with a lot of choices in them !
I would come back for sure during my next holiday in Yorkshire!

Read moreWe went here with friends for something to eat. The staff were very friendly and inside was very clean. There just happened ro be a wedding reception at the time of our visit so we were restricted as to where we could sit but it was ok. It's old style rustic type decor throughout and very nice. Large car park and outside seating for a sunny day. Good for kids. Plenty of choices on the menu for pub type grub. I have only given it 3 stars because of the food. 3 of us wanted the steak pie but it was unavailable so we settled for the cumberland sausage and mash. The sausages were only luke warm and not freshly cooked, looked as though they had been standing around for a while and dried out with little to no taste. My my wife opted for the fish and chips. The fish was greasey. We probably picked a bad time to eat as they were serving the wedding party at the same time so they were probably pre prepared and warm ups. The prices are reasonable if the food is well prepared but not if this is the standard. We will give it another chance as it is a nice pub and the surroundings are good. Hopefully the food...
