Visited today for the first time in a while for a treat and I'm stunned, gobsmacked, disappointed and dissatisfied ;
When we arrived we were shown to a table fairly swiftly fairly busy inside but not as busy as expected. We had a look at the menu's not as much choice as there used to be but OK,
We chose our food and drinks and decided to order, we ordered 2 large waffles, 1 large pancakes, 1 cookie dough, 1 smarty pants pancakes, 1 cheese on toast, 1 coke float, 1 Bueno hotchocolate and 1 coffee and 3 tray bakes to takeaway. Totalling over £60.
We asked for the cheese on toast to come before the deserts to be told "No were to busy" however at this time there was multiple staff stood talking not doing anything and nobody behind us ordering we found this very poor,
10 mins later food started to arrive to our table however they had at first got the pancakes and waffles the wrong way round (toppings wise) so we asked them to swap them which they did.
Food finally started to arrive correct this time however wow we were completely shocked as they were half the size they used to be however price has risen (understand prices have to rise), however it became very apparent that the waffles are no longer made in house and have been replaced with cheap small sugared waffles which you can commonly buy in supermarkets for 75p for a 5 pack. The toppings were slack and the Sauces tasteless, the cookiedough ice-cream was okay but not the same as it used to be. The kinder Bueno ice-cream was dire and tasted nothing like kinder Bueno. Pancakes okay but again sauce and toppings poor.
The size of the coffee for the price was very poor, the hot chocolate was watery and didn't taste of much chocolate.
The cheese on toast was good but hard to get wrong. But by the time this was eaten the ice-cream had melted on dessert.
We have been numerous times but afraid this will be our last, no value for money and poor quality we all left feeling very deflated and wish we hadn't bothered.
Food 2 stars because of the poor quality (not homemade waffles) deserts apart from 1 of the ice-cream flavours and the cheese on toast.
Service 3 stars because of quick seating and fairly quick service however it lacked by getting food wrong and not allowing cheese on toast to be served first. Baring in mind most of the staff are kids but trying there best.
Atmosphere was okay not overly busy
Overall today's visit 2 stars everyone has their own views and opinions but from today wallings has lost its charisma and wow factor and we will not be returning to spend...
Read moreWallings is without question the 'go to' place for a special ice-cream on the Fylde Coast.
There are many pretenders to their thrown; but all fall short on either taste, quantity of ice-cream stacked in a cone, or sheer volume of choice.
If you can't find a flavour you like at this flavour emporium, then move along, ice-cream isn't your thing...
I've been visiting Wallings Ice Cream since its humble beginnings based over the road in the farm yard, back then it was known as 'The Hole in the Wall Cafe' and the little window serving hatch can be seen in the wall as you leave the current car park. As I remember it was quite a stretch of the neck, and I'm tall, to peer in through the window into the gloomy darkness of the old barn.
The now well established current premises have plenty of parking, garden tables, well maintained toilets, a lovely cafe when Covid isn't wreaking social havoc. They have disabled parking to the front, near the road and a dedicated trailer for serving from. At the rear the often have chickens, cows etc in the surrounding fields to keep the kids distracted. They did have a small garden centre too before Covid-19 and this may return in the future.
On my current visit with the family, we sampled salted caramel, rainbow (vanilla with smarties), rum&raisin, black cherry, coconut, Turkish delight, and Eton mess; every one a delicious treat and even this selection doesn't make a dent on the substantial menu... Check out...
Read moreGreat ice cream but quite a miserable experience in terms of the purchase process.
You have to queue through a single doorway with a line of people that normally extends down the side of the building and a constant stream of people pushing past you as they leave the building after making a purchase.
When you do finally make it through the doorway and into the building you are faced with a small crowd of people looking at the board and wondering what to order, just one till and no organisation in terms of how you place an order, so it's a free for all.
Surely opening up the doorway to allow people to both enter and leave at the same time would make basic business sense, along with additional tills, maybe one of those ticket machines to add some efficiency to the queuing system and some boards outside listing the available flavours, which will also speed up the process as it will allow customers to have made a decision before arriving at the counter. It's really not rocket science!
Given the popularity of the brand and the product, I'm sure it would also make sense to locate a couple of kiosks around the grounds in order to cater for what is often a significant demand on a sunny day. I have lost track of the times I and others have taken one look at the queue and left without making a purchase, and this has been going on for year's!
