Angel Inn — Restaurant in Leeds

Took my 80 yr old Mum for lunch today. She ordered the fully loaded chicken strips £9.79. I ordered a starter for the main. The chicken tacos. We waited an hour for the food. We were never advised that there would be a waiting time. And the whole place was pretty empty. However after 45 min waiting I did have to ask and we were advised it was because they had a table of 20 before us. I wouldn’t have minded at all if we had been advised of a potential wait because of this. After an hour I asked again as I couldn’t understand how serving a starter and a chicken dish could take so long regardless of anything. There were 2 young lads working and although they were polite enough there wasn’t really any apology or urgency. I didn’t want to be funny about it and even said it’s not your fault but we can’t wait longer as we didn’t have time and had we of known we wouldn’t have waiting that long for what we were ordering. So one of the lads who turns out was apparently was the manager had said to the other give them a full refund. Food came at same time and my jaw kind of dropped to the floor when I saw my Mums in particular. Basically a tenner dish and it was the worst loaded chips/chicken dish I’ve ever seen!!! As you can see from the picture. I wouldn’t have served a dog that! Mine was nearly as bad and clearly thrown together but given that it was just over a fiver for mine I just thought whatever. The main issue was that we had waited over an hour for this! We were starving and had to eat so ate most of it. Then went to get our refund to be told we weren’t getting the refund now! Due to the fact that we had eaten it! Never had such bad service ever. I tried to explain how it isn’t acceptable but the manager was having none of it!!! So in the end I said look I’ll pay for mine and drinks but not paying for my Mums. So he knocked hers off very reluctantly. The whole thing was humiliating tbh. I would never go again put it that way. A McDonald’s would have been so much better and quicker! However we thought we were having a nice ish lunch...

We came to this pub on Saturday lunchtime and had a lunch there as it was the closest pub and we were really hungry but I am glad to say that it didn't disappoint. Obviously, it's not a five star Michelin gourmet place, it's a pub, but the food was satisfying, good value and the service was fast. I had a steak with salad and fries and the steak was cooked as I wanted it, which hardly ever happens even in expensive places these days (after COVID) my coffee was nice too, the salad was below average as it consisted mainly from iceberg salad leaves and steamed onions but I was kind of expecting it as I've never had a nice salad in a regular pub, so it didn't spoil my experience. There were some bits that could do with some improvement, for instance the salt shaker was empty and the saucer for coffee glass didn't fit the glass but the staff was attentive and helpful, so it didn't really matter. The menu was quite good with loads of choice for a pub. Parking is good and overlooked by CCTV and the pub was clean, including the toilets. We will definitely visit again if we need a quick meal. I'd give 5 stars but I've only given 4 as I'd like to encourage this pub as well as other pubs to step up their game with salads. the customer service was atrocious, we were served by somebody very rude. Who rushed my partner into paying full price and told her to use her blue light card later which was bot fulfilled due to how busy they were. The staff member who served us wasn't listening so one of the party members food did not arrive as essentially we didn't pay for it.

The words chosen by the staff member was: "I'm not being funny but there's a queue, can't we just use the card later" when was my partner able to use her discount later?

we were told there was going to be a 30minuite wait time, which turned into 45 minutes.

the drinks on tap were watered down along with the alcoholic beverage.

There was then a poor atmosphere as our party member didn't recieve her food.

the food was absolutely horrid, the chicken nuggets were burned, the food had clearly sat under the hot lamps as both burgers were terribly dry, congealed cheese.

We spoke to the bar staff about our problems and their solution was to make the meal but it would another 30minuites wait and we would have to pay for the meal.
