I would rate them 2.5 stars but im not rounding up.
Normally pretty good for dining and we travel for nearly an hour to dine at this restaurant despite being closer to Welling and Bromley.
The service has never been great but the food is usually good, plus it's a bigger venue which is able to cope for larger families.
Very disappointed Sunday just gone which has led to me rating my experiences while taking into consideration our previous visits.
If I could rate as a breakdown I would give the following:
Service: 2 Food: 4 Buffet: 1 Cost: 3 Venue: 4
Why disappointed?
We go to this Shampan often with the family and as indeviduals all the time and to say we spend a lot of money isn't exaggerating. This was the dining choice for a family members birthday meal and before going we called ahead and booked a table and that went well.
When arriving on Sunday while the air show was on we got our drinks and the usual popadoms and we then asked to get some chips for the kids like we normally do. The waiter then said they were not doing food from the menu today, this came as a shock because we always order from the menu on Sundays and never had this problem before. Secondly, this was for the kids, we were not going to pay full buffet prices for a little boy and a baby who only like the naan bread. After pretty much having a heated discussion with him he said he would do the chips.
He told us we could only have buffet, we then told them we should have been told this when booking. The waiter said we should have known or asked, never have we needed to ask in the past so why would we suddenly start asking this question. He was very rude and not caring for the situation at all and refused to get the manager when asked. We were going to leave but we were all very hungry in the middle of nowhere, so we opted for buffet.
We then had the buffet which was very poor, lack of option and not the most common dishes supplied. Defiantly not as many dishes put out either, cutting the selection down with only one vegetable option. Every time we went up to the buffet we had to ask for the dishes to be topped up with food. At one stage the lady brought out replenishments as we were waiting, she put the food in to the comes and then decided before us to take out Food which I'm assuming it was for he dinner. Very lapsed and it was like everyone was putting them out. My wife had about four pieces of chicken overall because it wasn't replenished everytime she went up and she ran out of patience and gave up on her meal and so did most of us to be honest.
When we go to Welling there is lots of choice even though its a lot smaller and it's very nice and always full with food, but this restaurant was very poor from start to finish. I was so annoyed I ate one plate with not much on it and sat outside with my two boys while they played on the grass.
Terrible meal and a terrible birthday bash for my...

This is the second time I visited Shampan and it will be the last. Two weeks ago I went there with my partner for the first time. There are lots to like about the Shampan, the restaurant is beautiful and modern, the staff is attentive and efficient while there is an air of class. The pomodoms are wonderful but trouble starts when it comes to main courses. The food is excessively hot and spicy, my partner could not eat it... and we both love hot and spicy food. It is like they dropped a jar of pepper in the food.
In our first visit I had lamb and my partner haddock. They were both nicely cooked but as explained well over peppered (it may be spices, chilli or whatever but that is what it tasted of... mountains of pepper). My partner had asked to have the fish medium spicy, however it was on the lines of a vindaloo. She could not eat it and when I finished her plate it wiped out the taste of my lamb, turning my lips into fire.
On our second visit, once again we asked the waiter (another one) to make the fish milder but he insisted the cheff would not adjust (so the previous time the waiter lied when he said it will be adjusted) So we are at his service and not the cheff at ours. Considering the high prices we pay one expects that the cheff would put half a chilli less... but no, he didn't and not only it was hot and firey but the fish this time was dry and burnt. I ordered beef which was nice and tender (and very very hot). I felt insulted to be presented with three cubes the size of oxo cubes in a large plate and a few table spoons of rice and a microscopic portion of some veg. But hey the most important bit is to have half a cup of this fiery, hot burning sauce to make the place look full and nice.
All we could taste is fire, heat, and burns... and I repeat we live hot spicy food.
On both occasions we had a bottle of very expensive red wine which we opted to finish drinking at the bar. I do not think I should be rushed to finish it so they close the bar... it was just past 11 pm not 3 am.
So on our first eveing I spent £135 and on the second £98 for a bottle of wine and two main courses and one dessert... and still the cheff would not adjust to my requirements. This makes me think the food is not freshly prepared.
Therefore, unfortunately I cannot recommend it, unless you have more money than...
Read moreWe went to shampan this evening, being a regular customer we always look forward to it as a family. However, tonight was different! Upon arrival we are normally offered a drink in the bar/lounge, not tonight we was rushed straight to our table. No coats were taken to be hung up, so we had them draping over our chairs and on the floor. We then ordered a bottle of champagne to which the waiter kept repeating cocktails? We was then kept 30 mins we asked a different waiter where our drinks were, apparently we hadn’t ordered any, which turns out the original waiter didn’t understand what champagne we was ordering so they just left us sitting there. Finally receiving our drinks, after one hour we asked if we could order food, starters come out the food was superb! Another 40 minutes went by, a different waiter came over and explained ‘we are sorry for the delay, our computer system has gone down and we will bring the starters shortly’ after explaining we had already eaten our starters the main course arrived. Again the food was great, we then sat with our empty plates infront of us for 30 minutes. Meanwhile waiting for 3 more rounds of drinks we had ordered and not arrived. To say we are extremely disappointed is a huge understatement. As I say the food was great, but the service and staff was abysmal, when we are talking about £400 for a family meal you would expect a lot more! Won’t be...
