I really wanted to give The Hare 5*'s. I go there fairly frequently for lunch & often celebrate friends birthday's in The Hares relaxed bar area, but after my visit on 29/3/19 I'm not that keen to return anytime soon.
I dine in the bar area so my well behaved pooch can join in the fun. This afternoon a friend & I had to ask for menus when they'd normally be given on arrival, & since we'd already been there 20 minutes we tried to order drinks, but we were told to go to the bar ourselves. It seems The Hare have stopped table service in the bar, & they've made some other customer unfriendly changes too.
Queuing for the bar two/three times each visit to order & pay when formally this was done from the comfort of the table isn't a move in the right direction. We're generous tippers, but today we left zero tip because all but going into the kitchen to collect our food we did the job of the waitresses. We also experienced slow, inattentive service; were told items weren't on the menu when they were; weren't told we had a food order number on the key to the card safe that kept our credit card behind the bar, another new practise, so our food nearly did a round of the pub & garden before ending up at our table; & received much less generous servings of ice cream than other local pubs which wasn't as tasty for the same money. There's been a high turn over of staff which hasn't done The Hare any favours, so unless they start treating their customers who choose to eat in the bar area the same as their other customers, brush up on their customer service skills, & lose their silly practise of locking ones payment card in a box which doesn't always open when it's time to pay!!! we won't be in a hurry to visit again anytime soon.
Apparently the new manager has aligned The Hare with the other pubs in their group which from experience also means one can no longer book a table in the bar! It amazes me when establishments make changes that aren't in the customers favour, especially various ones all at the same time, that they feel this is acceptable. To me it screams that the customer doesn't come first & is unimportant which is a BIG mistake for...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at "The Hare," and I must say that it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. This restaurant exceeded my expectations in terms of both the food and the service provided.
First and foremost, let's talk about the food. The 8oz Sirloin steak I ordered was nothing short of amazing. It was cooked to perfection, tender, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was a delight, and I found myself savoring every moment. If you're a steak lover, I guarantee that this dish will leave you craving more.
The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was also noteworthy. The ambiance was inviting and created a warm and cozy feeling. The cleanliness of the place was evident, and it contributed to the pleasant dining experience. The staff paid great attention to detail, ensuring that everything was in order and creating a comfortable environment for their guests.
Speaking of the staff, the service at The Hare was top-notch. One particular server named Constantine stood out with his exceptional skills. He had a great sense of humor, which added a touch of charm to the dining experience. His attentiveness and friendly demeanor made us feel welcomed and cared for throughout our visit. Constantine truly went above and beyond to make our stay at The Hare memorable.
To end the evening on a sweet note, I decided to indulge in an amaretto coffee, and it was simply divine. The rich flavors of the amaretto combined with the aromatic coffee created a heavenly combination that left me thoroughly satisfied.
Overall, I cannot recommend The Hare enough. The combination of fantastic food, excellent service, and delightful atmosphere made for an exceptional dining experience. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner or a gathering with friends, The Hare is the perfect choice. Thanks to the wonderful staff, including the outstanding Constantine, my visit was truly memorable. I am already looking forward to returning to The Hare for another remarkable...
Read moreI visited here on Christmas day 2014 with my partner and mother. On walking in the atmosphere was dead and for a restaurant that boasted it was fully booked on 24/12/2014 was very close to being empty. On arrival we were shown to our table and asked what we had chosen by a waitress that could barely speak any English. We ordered drinks whilst awaiting our starter when the drinks arrived (after some time) my mother’s drink was missing. After each course the plates were cleared immediately, to say we felt rushed is an understatement. I asked if I could order another glass of wine, again this never came so I had to repeatedly ask for it. The main course was served a plate of two small slices of turkey and vegetables placed around a plate. We started to eat the around 5 minutes later a member of staff presented us with a bowl of sprouts and new potatoes. After dinner I ordered two coffee's, again only was served. Upon requesting the bill I was presented with a bill , the restaurant had not deduct the £75 that my partner had paid 2 weeks prior as a deposit so I questioned it. The waitress came back and said sorry the people at the till do not know how to deduct deposits, yet Cleary a gentleman who appeared to be of management level was the person at the till ! The service at this place is absolutely appalling, the food is nothing special and the fact that they tried ripping us of is a joke... I would advise anyone thinking of going to not. Last week my partner checked his bank account and unbelievably the HARE have deducted a further £75.00 direct from his visa debit card without permission which is being investigated...
