I have just left the huntsman and hound in upminster and it is by far the worst experience I have had of eating in a pub. We ordered the food at the bar and was met by someone who obviously regretted the life decisions he had made that led to him ending up working in your pub. When we attempted to order our food he grunted at us that they had no rump or sirloin steak, which meant no mixed grill or surf and turf. As I looked at the menu to decide what I wanted instead, I was met with a sigh, which I assume was him musing as to what life could have been like for him. We decided on 3 rib eye steaks and a bacon and mushroom carbonara. I requested i have baby potatoes instead of chips with my steak which was agreed. Once our meals arrived you will be as shocked as i was to find my potatoes had magically turned into chips. The mushrooms for all 3 steak dinnners had disappeared along with the mushrooms in the carbonara. I can only assume these are the magic mushrooms I've heard others talk about in the past. I asked our waitress about the mushrooms and she scuttled off to find out for us. I belive your pub must be magic as she disappeared too only to re-emerge at the very end of our meal. She cleared our plates but appeared to have forgotten what I had asked so I reminded her only to be told "we've run out of mushrooms they should have told you at the bar when you ordered". It appears like everything else the apology for the missing food had disappeared too. Fearing that we too, like everything else would disappear, we escaped the magical huntsman and hound swearing...

We recently booked the function area at The Huntsman and Hound in Upminster for a family birthday celebration, and unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing.
From the moment we arrived, the bar lady was shockingly rude and unwelcoming. She threw dirty looks throughout the evening, was openly aggressive in her tone, and made us feel like a nuisance rather than paying customers. At one point, we were even told to “keep it down” after singing one song – a family favourite – despite being a private booking.
The tables provided were unstable and uneven, causing our drinks to spill multiple times. When we raised this, we were met with more hostility and were told things like, “I told you not to sit there” and “no more refills for your area” – completely unacceptable and unprofessional. If the tables were unsuitable, why weren’t they moved or our group relocated? There were only a handful of people in the entire pub, so it clearly wasn’t an issue of space.
Despite all this, we still spent a significant amount of money, including buying drinks for the same staff member who was treating us so poorly – which she accepted without hesitation. Her muttering under her breath and constant passive-aggressive behaviour soured what should have been a joyful family occasion.
As local residents, we’re deeply disappointed and have already advised others in the area to steer clear. Sadly, this experience ruined an otherwise lovely family...
Read moreReally disappointed has totally deteriorated, I visited here on Sunday 2nd August for lunch, I have used this particular Amber Inn on many occasions have has my family and friends. Due to the current covid climate we booked in advanced, on arrival we stood and waited to be seated, after nearly 10 mins, and a que gathering behind us, the waiter stood chatting and looking at us from the bar, a woman, approached us asked if we had booked and then proceeded to tell us the table wasn't ready, finally we get taken through to be seated next to a large group, of the waitress/managers family one old man sat rolling his cigarette poped it in his mouth, then went outside to smoke it we wasn't placed 2 meters away from them when the pub was almost empty. We went to the bar to order our food, to be told there was no roast left, fine, as we return to our seats the "family" received their large roast dinners, after a while 2 more family members arrived went into the kitchen to order Yorkshire puddings and gravy, which they duly received, it actually felt like we were sitting in their front room, the waiter kept coming to join them, it felt quite uncomfortable. When our dinner finally arrived it was sad and limp one measly sausage and a handful of chips with a limp salad for a child's meal. Really sad to see such a lovely pub know for its lunches look shabby and run in an...
