This is a nice pub and great for drink but we mistakenly thought we could also get a nice Sunday Roast. My wife ordered the roast chicken and then I tried to order the Sunday roast duo, only to be told that it had just been made unavailable. Our waitress said she would go and check with the kitchen. It turned out that that they had run out of roast potatoes (bit strange) but I could have the duo roast with dauphinois potatoes. Our starters of prawn and squid arrived and were excellent. Then the mains were delivered and it went downhill. My wife’s chicken was very very dry and her pig in blanket was burnt. My mixed roast also had chicken which was very dry and over cooked as was my pig in blanket. The worst thing though were our inedible Yorkshire puddings (photo attached), which were more like a pancake and I wonder if it they had even seen an oven. When asked the obligatory question by the waitress if everything was ok with the food, we expressed our disappointment with the mains, only to be told that the waitress was sorry to hear that, but with no follow-up to ask specifically what was wrong. It was like she expected our response. When the bill came we again expressed our disappointment over the food and asked if we could have the service charge removed from our bill, not due to poor service but due to poor food. Unexpectedly the waitress said no problem and spoke to the lady we assume was the manager, for her to simply roll her eyes and that was it. We got a new lower bill which we begrudgingly paid. I was not just disappointed by the food but by the reaction when we raised our concerns, it was like they expect complaints. My advice is don’t expect a good Sunday roast here, which is disappointing as we have eaten here previously in the evening mid week and the food was fine.

So after a bad experience last time the manager reached out and asked for another try. The communication was excellent and showed they do care about customer satisfaction and the service they provide so we gave them a second shot. My partner had the salt and pepper squid which like last time was excellent and I tried the scallops with pancetta, this was a little salty but overall a nice dish, My partner then had the roast chicken which this time was a bigger portion but a little stingy on the potatoes (only 4) chicken was cooked well nice and juicy not dry this time and the Yorkshire puddings was also cooked well and not burned, gravy was a little watery but had good flavour. I had the ribeye steak cooked medium with beef dripping sauce. Steak and chips were excellent cooked perfect and the fat nicely rendered to melt in your mouth. They can definitely cook a good steak. I had onion rings as a side these were undercooked but are freshly made and its a new recipe so I am sure they will get this right soon. For pudding was a chocolate bomb and this was also excellent and bursting with flavour. Service like last time was excellent and you can see they take pride in trying to ensure you get a good experience and will go above and beyond to ensure they get it right for you even if things do go wrong. Santha is a great manager and it was a pleasure to meet her. I will definitely go again

First time here following the refurbishment. Ample parking but only 2 disabled bays that I could see. The decor very warm and welcoming but you can still smell the paint from the toilets from where we were sitting. Now to the negative stuff, we had to wait a bit to be shown to our table as there was no one in the reception area. The young lady took us to a corner table and only handed us the drinks menu. We waited nearly 25 minutes and still no one came to our table. I literally had to get up and go to the bar and ask for the food menu and to be served. The waiting time for the drinks, starter and main meal was abysmal. We ordered margaritas and it came without the salt around the glasses, the starters were average and bland and the main was so so. The curry I had was with chicken and it was not cooked properly. Overall really disappointed.

The pub is very beautiful inside and out and located conveniently opposite to a park ideal for children and dog walkers.

Service however was shocking. I had an engagement party booked for two months I was told there was no other event on the same day and I could have the entire space to the right of the bar and I called multiple times to confirm my food preorders as I felt like the staff sounded busy and didn’t really take note of what I was saying.

On the day I turned up to find people starting to sit in my area I had booked out and refusing to move as there was no reserved signs out. The staff said they thought I didn’t need that much space (I had 40 guests plus children and the area seated approximately 35-40 not sure where they expected my guests to sit?) following that I was then told my food wasn’t preordered and only had half the menu options I requested and a lot of my guests were disappointed at the lack of selection (I selected 6 option canapé but only had burgers and falafel and hallumi fries they then said they could add goujons and falafel which most of my guests don’t like and had tonnes of those options left over.) felt like I wasted my money. Also there wasn’t enough plates and had to keep asking for top ups. Then if anyone knows engagement parties they tend to go on 4-5 hours especially as I had family travel from quite far so they made the journey worth it by wanting to stay a while before driving back. Well that wasn’t possible as I was then told they had a wake booked and we needed to clear half the area (where all my buffet food and sweet tables and decor was which I was told I was allowed to set up) obviously as I started clearing up my guests took that as a que to get going. So it finished before I got to speak to everyone or even get a chance to take photos for memories and me and future husband never even got to see each other the entire time until we had to clear everything away and by that point we had enough and just wanted to go home.

Engagement party was totally ruined and we will never get that day back. Won’t ever be returning.

They did offer 20% discount but it doesn’t change our experience as it was such a special day and I’ve never felt so upset because so much time and planning went into that day and nothing went to plan at all on their behalf . Gutted is an...

Our party of 4 all ordered from the set lunch menu, 2 having a starter of Panfried King Prawns with Chilli & Feta - only we were told when ordering that the kitchen had run out of Feta. We asked if the kitchen could substitute another cheese - eg cheddar. Our waiter told us that was fine but then returned to inform us that the kitchen had no cheddar & would mozzarella be ok - which we confirmed. Our main courses were all served without any problems.... .but then came desserts. 2 people ordered coffee with a mini pudding ((one mini white chocolate cheesecake & one mini summer pavlova) & 2 people ordered Apple & Damson Crumble but were told that this was not available. The 2 people both ordered the white chocolate cheesecake instead. However, after taking our order, our waiter returned to advise that the kitchen could not do the 2 white chocolate cheesecakes either. The person who had ordered the mini cheesecake queried whether she was going to get hers & was told that yes, the kitchen had enough cheesecake for a mini portion but not for 2 ordinary size portions. Our waiter was very apologetic & indicated that we would not be charged for our desserts if we would like to choose something different. We duly ordered, & received, 2 ordinary portions of Berries Pavlova. The mini cheesecake was very sub-standard, having no proper cheesecake base but rather just a base of crushed biscuits & the mini pavlova had absolutely no meringue in it whatsoever but was more of a fruit fool. When we received our bill, we disputed the way the calculation had been done as we felt we had been overcharged but the waiter indicated that that was the only way that the system could allocate 2 gratis desserts. We were told that the head chef was not at work for 3 weeks and that the food ordering by the kitchen appeared to have suffered. Unfortunately, our waiter ultimately suffered as we did not feel able to leave a tip although none of the problems we encountered with our meal were his fault. Overall a very disappointing meal and we will definitely not be visiting The...
