We booked The Horseshoes last minute on a Saturday afternoon for a Sunday roast the next day. Initially, we were a little concerned that we could get a table at short notice, as most places were fully booked. However, we decided to give it a go, and we’re so glad we did! From the front, the pub looks a little tired, but don’t let that put you off. There’s a large car park at the rear, which is a refreshing change from many country pubs that have sacrificed parking space. Plenty of room, no stress! Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by a lovely young hostess who showed us to our table, a cosy spot by the window next to a warm radiator. Our server, Millie, looked after us throughout the meal, and she was fantastic. Friendly, professional, and genuinely engaged, she made us feel welcome and well cared for. Now, onto the food. My wife had the pork roast, and I opted for the trio of roasts, beef, chicken, and pork. Usually, you’d expect a small slice of each, but not here! I was served half a chicken, a generous slab of pork belly, and a thick-cut slice of beef, all accompanied by a Yorkshire pudding and a great selection of vegetables. Both meals were absolutely delicious. For dessert, we chose the chocolate bomb and the apple tart, both of which were just as impressive as the main course, rich, well-presented, and packed with flavour. If you’re looking for a proper pub meal with generous portions, high-quality food, and great service, I’d highly recommend The Horseshoes. A special shoutout to Millie, who made our Sunday roast an even better experience. We can’t wait to return and try more...

Not our first time here but I think it's my last time, firstly we were never told that we needed to order at the bar so wasted plenty of time sitting waiting for someone to take our order before having to actually ask.
Then when the food came, 3 x Beef roasts, not bad but sat from good. One large bit of carrot, one large bit of parsnip, a few slices of beef, around 4 potatoes and a large overdone Yorkshire.
The on the side veg was ok and the addition ally ordered cauliflower cheese was pathetic at best 3 1/2 small bits), then there's the gravy, none pretty much and not even as much as a gravy boat for the table for additional making the already overdone Yorkshire's even more dry.
We had no cutlery until after the food arrived and to be honest it was pretty average at best.
We decided to have deserts and the brownie was ok, warm and nice but nothing amazing, but the apple tart was nasty. No taste whatsoever and it was one of the blandest things I've eaten.
The worst part is that no one even cleaned the mains away before the deserts arrived (again with no cutlery).
For the price this was an awful experience and I'd not be spending my money there again, a meal with drinks coming to over £100 with such slow and poor service is a disgrace compared to other pubs selling better food with better service for...
Read moreTucked away in East Farleigh this is a rather excellent gastro pub. Horseshoes offers a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. It's nicely appointed and has that cozy feel whilst being quite open and airy indoors.
The restaurant has a chilled atmosphere and chatter from other tables didn't seem to invade too much. When it's busy, service could be criticised for being a little slow at times, but everything is worth the wait and the service comes with a smile. Aggie was quite super and one of the most friendly waitresses I've had the pleasure of meeting.
We had a table of 5 and everybody ordered something different. The dirty burger comes with a dripping gravy which is quite awesome. The bass was cooked very well. The rib-eye was excellent. The lamb rump is cooked to personal preference and proved to be delicious. The vegetarian nourish bowl is very tasty. My daughter added a side of chips to increase the carbs a little. Well, that was her excuse anyhow. I think it's because the chips are too good to miss.
Every dish was presented well and everyone genuinely enjoyed their food.
All in all we had a lovely evening at the Horseshoes and we'll be returning to check out their brunch menu. Everyone knows that I love a decent breakfast and the menu...
