Having moved to Tillingham just three months ago, we’ve already become regulars at the Cap & Feathers – the kind of local where you feel right at home. We booked a table for Sunday lunch and, after a warm welcome, were seated promptly. There was a moment of confusion as we couldn’t find menus on the table, but a quick trip to the bar for drinks set things straight. We were assured someone would come over to take our food order – and they did, with service that was both friendly and efficient.
Now, let’s talk roasts. Between us, we sampled the Roast Chicken, Roast Beef, and a mixed meat extravaganza featuring chicken, lamb, and beef. The portions were more than generous – the kind of plate that makes you wonder if you’ve accidentally ordered for two. Accompanying the meats were crispy roast potatoes, parsnips, stuffing, Yorkshire puddings, and the ever-essential pigs in blankets. On top of that, we had a shared bowl of perfectly cooked vegetables – cabbage, peas, and carrots – plus a delicious dish of cauliflower cheese and, of course, a gravy boat to drown everything in.
The condiments were all on the table, ready to go – English mustard, horseradish, and mint sauce – the works. It was a Sunday feast done right. And while I might be used to serving up first-class meals at 35,000 feet, let me tell you, this roast definitely hit cruising altitude. The drinks were just as enjoyable: a glass of bubbly Prosecco and Maldon Gold Beer made for a perfect pairing.
We couldn’t resist finishing with desserts – the sticky toffee pudding with custard was rich and comforting, while the honeycomb cheesecake with cream provided a sweet, crunchy contrast.
Chef Dave works his magic in the kitchen, while the pub is expertly run by Sean and Helen, a friendly, attentive couple. With a roaring log fire adding to the cosy atmosphere, this is hands-down the best Sunday lunch we’ve had in the area – I’d happily serve it in first class!...
Read moreThe Cap and Feathers is a charming country pub in the small village of Tillingham. It has low beams and plenty of character. The landlady was very welcoming, remembering that we had won a voucher in a raffle at our chiropractic clinic! We had a table for two near a window and the waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. We both chose the roast dinner, my husband had the beef and I had the chicken. The quantities were huge! Plenty of freshly cooked vegetables(4 different types) and a wonderful cauliflower cheese as well! The food was perfectly cooked and nicely served; the staff were very attentive checking that we were happy. My husband had room left for a dessert, but I had to decline!! He had a tasty apple crumble with custard! When it was time to leave we tried to pay for the dessert, assuming that just the main meal was the prize; but we weren’t charged!! We just had to pay for our drinks! We left after giving our thanks, vowing to make a future visit. Everyone was lovely! The pub is the traditional English country establishment and we would highly recommend it! Worth the fairly long drive - very scenic route too! Looking forward to a...
