The Cats Pub — Restaurant in Maldon

An out of the way pub with great atmosphere, most welcoming staff and tasteful decorated interior. We liked the fact that there was NO blaring muzak that you sometimes hear in pubs, NO unnecessary TV screns spoiling the atmosphere, only space for ordinary conversations and people to be relaxed. Also, we appreciated that we had to pay cash only transactions. The food was simple yet substantial, local ales highly satisfying. Just popped in for a quick one and sat in the garden for an hour and a half on a lovely summer day. We didn't eat as we were on the way home.

It was a lovely warm welcome from our lovely hostess. Someone said it was like going back to the seventies, and hooray to that. No fussy arty farty stuff, just a good pint of beer or glass of wine and a good old fashioned ploughmans if you want one. What more do you want on a nice day,

Great reception, excellent beer, cosy traditional atmosphere complete with log fire. A true 5-star pub, reduced to 4 through no fault of the owners. Only a few locals chose to reveal their amazing ignorance of matters European by voicing their narrow-minded opinions on the subject while extolling Britain's superiority in all fields.
