Zara Indian Cuisine (Danbury) — Restaurant in Maldon

Wow.. totally blown away. We visited this evening as a ‘last minute after work, let’s pop for dinner’!

The waiters are absolutely lovely, so hospitable, chatty and welcoming - nothing was too much.

The food was impeccable, and as I said to the waiters tonight, the best Indian I have ever tasted (and we’ve eaten our fair few!) Everything was fresh and piping hot, and it’s true what other reviews say, the onion bhajis are the best I’ve ever tried.

Having only lived in the area a short while we hadn’t been here before but had tried others locally but this beats anything else we have tried, here and everywhere else! Definitely worth a visit, if we could give more than 5 stars we would!

Food was fantastic but I definitely felt the stigma and awkwardness of being their first customer of the afternoon/evening and asking for a table for one. Felt very rushed (plates were literally being whisked away from under my nose). The guy that served me seemed more interested in checking himself out in the mirror than serving me. Not v. friendly - I felt a bit like he thought he was doing me a favour by letting me eat there. When I told him that I felt a bit rushed he got very defensive, bordering on insulting. Avoid if you have allergies or dietry requirements!! Ordered takeaway this evening and made it explicitly clear that I was ordering all vegan, they have a great vegan menu this should be easy. However, they gave me meat samosas. I have called and informed them and just got told that it was a mistake, that they would talk to the staff and when I order next time I can ask for the manager and he'll do the order to make sure. No apology and no attempt to correct the error. I won't be ordering from them again. Very disappointed as there seem to be so few vegan takeaways in this area.
