Found this place on the way back to where were staying from a visit to Castle Howard and it couldn't have been a nicer visit. We were a little early to get food so had a drink while we waited, it was quiet in there for early on a Tuesday night but so cosy and warm. The staff took our order just before 5:30pm, when they serve dinner, which was kind of them. All the staff were really welcoming and they were attentive but not overbearing. Food came really quickly, HUGE portions, well worth the money. My partner had the steak gatsby sandwich and while he did a good job finishing it, you could definitely share between two or even three people. I had the falafel burger which was absolutely delicious. We also had the halloumi sticks starter and they were divine, cooked perfectly. Dog friendly too! Couldn't rate this place highly enough.

Was early for an appointment and past this pub and decided to call in for a drink . We were greeted straight away and made to feel very welcome . We ordered drinks from a charming guy behind the bar and the owner told us about the seating area outside which is what we opted for. A small marquee is in the garden if weather isn’t so good and there’s is a beautiful garden and hanging baskets .. the smell of food was too much to resist and we ordered lunch ..scampi and chips and an egg mayonnaise sandwich with a side salad . Both were lovely .. The pub itself is charming , Olde Worlde with low ceilings and really quaint. Would definitely recommend for a lovely meal and friendly welcome… oh and dog friendly Def 5*

After seeing comments about the food here on Instagram, I took my wife on a mystery day out, 274 mile round trip from Derbyshire. Arriving for our booked table, we chose the Steak Gatsby off the normal menu and chose the pensioners special 3 couses for £10 - Mushroom Pate, Braised Steak and Colcannon Mash and Apple & Cranberry Crumble. The Steak Gatsby was a large crunchy sub roll filled with Steak, 2 eggs, chips and tomato with lettuce and mild Piri Piri sauce. It was very tasty and large. The 3 course meal was very nice and very good value. The husband and wife owners were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended to try here, made the day worthwhile.

What an amazing pub, the staff, service, food and the pub are excellent, our first time visiting and made to feel so welcome even though we sat in The Dog House 😃, one of the nicest comfortable dog friendly areas we have sat in, Maisie our Shih Tzu gave it the paws up... we ordered from the Sunday lunch menu, roast beef and half a chicken, served with the most amazing cauliflower chees along with carrots, cabbage, crispy roast potatoes and an enormous yorkshire pudding with a jug of very tasty gravy on the side, Maisie of course helped us with the beef and chicken, the portion was more than enough to share, the staff came several times to check if we needed anything and to make sure the meal was OK,, ..pudding did not disappoint, warm chocolate brownie with fresh cream and chocolate sauce and biscoffi cheesecake with ice cream and biscoffi biscuit, definitely returning when we are in...

No complaints at all - this is a pub with grub worth going out of your way for. They obliging fitted us in and fed us in grand style. The service was swift and spot on. The portions were more than adequate and my eyes watered at the size of fish that was served - bigger even than a "large cod" I had recently had in Whitby!! The bbq ribs were sublime and fell off the bone. And the burger was excellent. And, despite professing not to want a dessert, my son managed to finish half of mine!! For a somewhat picky eater, I think that tells you everything!! We had a lovely meal, in an excellent atmosphere, was served in part by the landlord himself and left feeling happy, well fed and perfectly sated. Highly recommended as a perfect eating experience ... and the fact that it was fully booked on a workaday Weds evening kinda says...
