The setting is great, the food is good (especially the gluten-free scones), and the staff and friendly. Sadly, both the tea and coffee are poor quality and should be avoided, the same issue 11 months apart and nothing has improved.
The tea is awful. It is a very weak brand with not much tea in the bag (think supermarket value brand style). Left to brew for five minutes yet still was weak, watery, and unpleasant to drink.
The coffee is worse yet. It’s incredibly weak, bitter and void of any flavour notes (tastes likes very low quality beans that aren’t freshly ground), and the milk is also watery (perhaps skimmed or semi skimmed, and burnt when steaming) destroying the texture and taste. See the picture below of the white mug, that's a 'latte' - there’s is no velvety hues of brown and white like one would expect from a latte, because there is no espresso crema at all - it looks like something that comes out of a cheap vending machine and tastes even worse.
I don’t understand how a ‘tea room’ can get tea and coffee so wrong. And at the prices they change for their awful drinks; it’s almost insulting. They need better quality supplies of both coffee beans and milk, and some training on how to make good coffee.
My recommendation would be to buy cakes/scones here, but bring your own accompanying tea and...
Read moreAfter a rather invigorating constitutional about the grounds of Witley Court, we found ourselves in dire need of sustenance and, quite fortuitously, happened upon The Garden Tea Rooms. One must say, the establishment's ambiance perfectly complements the tranquil energy of the surrounding gardens. We opted for panini, which were served in a timely manner and proved to be absolutely scrumptious. The balance of cheese and ham was spot on, accompanied by a delightful garnish of rocket and cherry tomatoes. A truly satisfying repast, indeed. Regarding the cost, we did find it a tad on the steep side for the calibre of fare on offer. However, we were so thoroughly charmed by the exceedingly affable and attentive staff that we felt compelled to bestow upon them a five-star review nonetheless. The experience was such that we're rather looking forward to our next visit, during which we intend to sample other delights from their menu. The Garden Tea Rooms may be a touch dear, but the warmth of service more than compensates for any pecuniary concerns. In summary, while The Garden Tea Rooms may not be the most economical choice, the delectable offerings and exemplary service make it a worthy pit stop for the discerning visitor to Witley Court...
Read moreWe had gift vouchers for this little cafe and were llooking forward to going. It's approximately an hours drive for us. Sadly having not been before when we got to the road to it, it was so heavily potholed it was almost impassable! The cafe isn't well signposted and we drove, very carefully to avoid as many potholes as we could and still had to ask two people where the cafe was. It's incredibly poorly signed, hidden by long grass and too far off the access road to spot it. It needs a sign at either end of the access road and at the turn for the cafe. The little car park is poor too, muddy and potholed! The cafe and staff were pleasant enough but I wouldn't go again. The conservatory needed a good broom to sweep away the cobwebs and chairs stacked up outside need to be found a home...
