A proper local but anyone will be more than welcome. A restaurant and separate bar, with music nights on Saturdays and an open Mic night on Wednesdays. Run by the owners, Mark and Sue, with help from family and friends.
The restaurant: very well done, delicious, food. Pub classics but with a few innovations, and you won't always see a roast on the menu. Book in advance to ensure you get a table, it gets busy. All prepared fresh in house. Some recommendations: start with the chicken liver and bacon Paté (smooth robust flavour). From the mains, the roast beef (melts in the mouth, done in a rich red wine sauce), the lamb (again very tender, served with gravy) or the Haddock (wonderful smokiness with a delicious creamy sauce). All come with a choice of potatoes and veggies. For dessert, the treacle tart with ginger (a triumph, all Treacle tarts should be with ginger) or the red Berry Pavlova (the sharpness contrasts beautifully with the sweet pavlova). All very good value given the quality.
The pub: a few tables, sofas and bar stalls. On busy nights the place fills up fast so get there early. A good choice of local ales with regular rotation. Classic lagers available too. Full wine list from the restaurant or a handful of red and white wines to choose from for a quick glass. Wide range of spirits behind the bar. Great atmosphere, friendly faces.
Brilliant service here. The food comes quickly and with a smile. Behind the bar they'll always be...
Read moreI must admit I'd not heard of the Green Dragon, which is hardly surprising as I live nearly 20 miles away from it. But today I was invited to a birthday party there, and what a treat it turned out to be! The buffet food was delicious and all home-made, and the hosts were very friendly. I've looked at their menu online and would love to return to sample their regular menu, which is all reasonably priced. Few vegan items were on the menu, but the landlord said that if he was told there would be vegans when booking the table, he would ensure there would be ample choice. Car parking is good, and everything is on the same level and therefore accessible for...
