Superb. My starter of king scallops was exceptional, melt in the mouth. There was a slight problem with my main but the staff responded immediately and positively and the chef offered me a complimentary dessert to make amends, and I have to say the dessert was also superb. My husband's main course was so delicious and the whole menu was imaginative; a flavour-filled change to the usual pub fare but without being 'poncey'. The portion sizes were perfect - I very rarely get to enjoy a dessert as I'm usually too full but I was so delighted to have room for a pud and oh what a pud - almond cake with poached pears and homemade salted caramel ice-cream to die for, and the sesame seed snap biscuit . . . I thought the food was exceptional and so was the service - no gormless ditzy youngsters with very little initiative here - a young team of switched on, professional and attentive (yet never invasive) individuals, obviously very well trained and valued, and watched over by subtle yet attentive management. It was so lovely and made a refreshing change to be dining in a place where one's custom is valued. A little on the pricey side if you're expecting pub fare, but this is fine dining à la pub and worth every penny in our opinion. It was a lovely atmosphere; comfortable, relaxed, yet elegant and worth getting dressed up for. It was also lovely to see that the pub, though clearly an eaterie, also welcomes people in who just want to sit at the bar and have a casual drink. We also noticed a couple of families dining with very well behaved children which was also lovely to see. This establishment appears to have hit the jackpot on winning formulas, catering for the serious foodies as well as those wanting to enjoy a relaxed family dinner or the locals who just want to pop in for a drink. Cannot fault it and can't wait to go back. This will be our go-to place to take visitors from now on and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it if you want to eat somewhere a bit special, with a lovely ambience, stylish furnishings and a very warm welcome - minus the outrageous prices and pretensions. We live in a village near Pershore and the owners of an establishment a little closer to home ought to book themselves onto a workshop run by the owners of this place to learn how to value their customers, how to treat them with respect and learn how not to be arrogant and how to respond positively to criticism. My husband and I had an absolutely delightful evening and I relish the thought of our next visit. Thank you to all at The...
Read moreWe stayed at an Air BnB in Hamley Swan and the guest book recommended a pub called the Swan which was only a 15 minute walk from the house, but when we enquired to book they were full. So we searched a few other local pubs and discovered the Inn at Welland and they had a table for us. We could not have been luckier as this pub/restaurant was fantastic!! There was 6 of us and initially was a little worried as there were not many people there but that changed as the evening went on and it was full by the time we had our dessert!
The Menu is small, which is always a good thing, and lots of very interesting and varied choices. I choose the river trout tartar which was very, very good and my wife had a tomatoe and goats cheese salad which doesn't sound much, but was in her words "epic"! My Old man had scallops which he loved and brother had chicken terrine which he enjoyed, alot!
For mains I had Pollock on Brown Shrimp and sweetcorn chowder which was one of the nicest fish dishes I have eaten! My wife had skate with peas and straw fries, sounds like fish and chips but was on a completely different level! My Borther had fillet steak which was cooked to perfection and my mum had the vegan sweet potatoe option and everyone had a try of it and loved it!
We had some cheese for dessert which was very good, and my brother had a strawberry cheese cake which was even better than the cheesecake my mum and made to bring on out trip! Which she didn't like to hear!
Wine selection was very good, could have done with a few more options by the glass! The restaurant was very well decorated and the garden looked great!
Overall you can see why they have been recommended in the Michelin guide and if you are staying in the Hanley Swan/Malvern area and someone recommends you go to the Swan, I'm not saying you shouldn't but I would personally recommend the Inn at...
Read moreI have to agree with the previous reviewer having experienced the same issues.
We ordered wine and had to ask twice before it arrived. Then we waited 45 minutes to order any food and were ignored by the waiting staff until we asked to order. Two starters were unavailable so we ordered some bread instead of starters and steaks for mains. It took another twenty minutes for the bread to come. The bread was very nice, but at this point we had had enough of waiting so asked if we could leave the steaks that had not yet arrived and we would go elsewhere. As we were leaving the steaks arrived but we were so put off by our experience we did not want to stay, I should add that one looked nice but the other did not look at all appetising. We offered to pay for the food we had received but were kindly told that we should just pay for the £65 bottle of wine we had ordered.
To be fair to the owners they did telephone me the following day and apologise and invited us to visit again for a meal with their compliments.
While I appreciate the gesture I will not be taking them up on their offer. No restaurant should require a 'do-over' and we are unable to repeat our wedding anniversary or the very rare babysitter that we booked. I would not return and...
