This is not a pub that I would dream of entering. I came down the Rochdale canal on a narrow boat a while ago and my first impression was rubbish. Rubbish was piled on the flat roof. Rubbish was overflowing the bins. Rubbish was on the towpath by the lock. Rubbish was in the lock. Admittedly the towpath and the lock aren't their responsibility but surely they would want their surroundings to be welcoming. With standards of cleanliness at such a low ebb in the surroundings can one be confident that these same standards aren't reflected within?
I am willing to accept that the people are friendly and cheerful. These things are important but so is the feel of a place and the appearance. I do think that the owners/managers would do well to take a look around...
Read moreGreat place. Probably the 1st pub I tried and met the landlady right away. She was extremely nice and the place had decent drink prices. Great atmosphere and people. As a American traveler it was a very interesting place to come upon. Only recommendation is maybe add a little security on the busier nights as I seen a few individuals pushing people around but even then the staff handled it accordingly....
Read moreLovely pub, great atmosphere. Laura the Landlady/Manager is absolutely brilliant, always goes that extra mile. The lovely bar staff are always ready to greet you with a smile. Drinks are so cheap and there are regular DJs on so you can dance the night away. The beer garden in the summer months is great. Definitely recommend...
