I wanted beef and all that was available was scraggy over cooked end bits. I asked if there was any nice beef available and was told I had to wait and he can’t throw the bits away that were left. I ended up with dried scraggy, fatty end bits as my husband had already got his meal. Not great service. Half of the vegetable dishes looked dried out and some were empty. The roast potatoes were absolutely burnt to nothing. It was my birthday today and my daughter tied a birthday balloon to my chair. Unfortunately when we left we forgot to take the balloon.. After 10 mins we realised we’d left it and rang to ask them to save it so I could collect it ,which we would have done within 15 mins. I was told quite matter of factly and rudely, that as it was left, we assumed it was rubbish so disposed of it! Of course they could have removed from the chair and kept it longer than 10 mins to see if we came back for it! It’s only a small thing but the balloon was given to me by Granddaughter.

In response to The Gap’s reply Firstly there were never any other decorations just the balloon Our booking was at 4.30pm so I’m correct with my timings. As for Tom- yes he was polite at first but then was very sharp with his replies. I got the feeling he thought- it’s only a balloon. Let’s not blow this out of proportion. I just wanted to let you know of our experience and as we only live approx 3 minutes away and were...

The worst dining experience we’ve ever had. Reserved a table online only to find the place half empty and left to find yourself a seat. Ordered on the app to save time.

Drinks came quickly and waitress was friendly. However lots of staff mucking about- chefs wandering aimlessly and taking the mick out of each other which is fine, but it made you feel a bit uncomfortable and there is no customer awareness.

After over 40 mins of waiting for a chicken parm I asked the waitress to check on it for us. She appeared 30 seconds later with a scorching hot bowl of overcooked, dry stuff that had clearly been forgotten about. My other half went up to get his carvery option and wished he hadn’t bothered.

The turkey was so overcooked it was powdery dry, seriously salty gammon, brussel sprouts that were like bullets.

If I’d thought raising the issue with a staff member would’ve made any difference, I would’ve. But to be honest the place seems like it’s run by a bunch of kids, and the chefs clearly spend more time mucking about than doing any kind of cooking. We were also starving by the time we got our food and couldn’t be bothered to argue- not that there was anyone to complain to as it was virtually self service!

Maybe we caught them on a bad day- after all a Friday night is hardly peak time. But to be honest I wouldn’t run the risk of giving...

I booked a table for mum’s birthday lunch. We were greeted by Kerry who wished mum a happy birthday and showed us to our seats. We all had carvery meals and I have to say, the service by ‘Monch’ was first class. He was chatty and polite and again wished mum a happy birthday. The gammon, turkey and beef were delicious, and there was an array of vegetables as well stuffing and roasties. All piping hot and cooked very well and not overdone. Monch’s colleague, ‘Ireland’ was also making sure all was well food-wise too. We had pudding and Kerry brought out a cake decorated with strawberries and chocolate sauce, complete with candle for mum too. How lovely. Turns out Monch is good at cake decorating and carving! We were also well looked after by Leah and all in all we had a really lovely time very mum’s birthday. Nothing was too much trouble for the team. I would happily recommend and will be...

The new decor and furniture is a vast improvement and we love the solar panels on the roof as an environmental effort. We enjoyed the vegan burgers and the quality of food has definitely improved since we visited a few months ago. Our chips were a little greasy to say they’d been oven cooked (to avoid cross contamination) but that would be our only criticism. Staff are always friendly, but further training would improve the overall experience - learning table numbers so the waiting staff aren’t wandering around looking lost and remembering to bring the sauces back to the table when asked. More vegan dessert options would be great too! Overall The Gap Inn has got a nice atmosphere and it’s a friendly place to eat and relax that’s good value for money. I’d also like to add that Ben and Jordan the Managers were fantastic and looked after us well!

I visited today with my daughter, we were met by a smiley helpful member of staff at the door who found us a nice table although we hadn't pre booked, we then ordered at the bar with a very helpful, friendly young man called Luke, he was very attentive with good attention to detail, the food was good and fresh, good choice of veg and the meats were nicely cooked. It wasn't super cheap at a few pence under £30 for a traditional roast, a children's roast, a portion of pigs in blankets and 2 soft drinks but I guess that's the norm for carveries nowadays. Luke again showed he was on the ball by visiting our table to tell us my daughters free dessert would be on its way.....and it was.....and it was very tasty.

Absolutely FANTASTIC! We went yesterday as a family of 4 🙂 We used the kids eat for £1 deal, the meal was great and really good portion size for a children's meal! I had one of their homemade pizzas and my husband had burger both delicious!! We went to celebrate me passing my 3rd year at university and the staff went above and beyond and did me a special dessert to celebrate 🥳 I was overwhelmed by their kindness!! Lizzie you are so talented with the beautiful dessert you put together! Service was fabulous!! We will definitely be back!! Thank you so much to everyone that made it an extra special celebration!! What a great team!! See you all again soon!!
