Ate at the halfway house while staying for a week away at whipcott water. Only a 10 minute drive which was reasonable.
The service was welcoming from the start, seated quickly at our table which we pre-booked and they even had the high chair ready.
We managed to eat out on the last day of eat out to help out and the restaurant side of the pub didn't feel rushed at all. We weren't hurried to place our orders or rushed to finish and the whole meal was eaten at a leisurely pace.
The food was amazing. We ordered starters and mains, and the portion sizes were definitely on the larger side. Perfect if you have a healthy appetite. Everything came out hot and fresh and all our dishes (all different) we're perfect. Even the children's menu had a little something for any child on it and came for what would be a reasonable adult portion.
The desserts were equally good, and came in at just over £70 for 3 adult starters, 3 mains, 2 desserts a child's dinner and drinks. All in all excellent value and would highly recommend to anyone staying or visiting near by to eat at.
Plus if you fancy it, over the summer they have a lovely pub garden and a skittles alley (not open due to covid) making it a definite go to place for a great evening out for...
Read moreMain course was actually quite good which was fish pie, scampi and grilled salmon. My daughter's pizza wasn't great, the cheese had been dropped in the middle and not spread out, so a lot of it was tomato only.
Things went down hill when we ordered pudding. Two of us ordered bread and butter pudding which is a favourite of mine and which I know well. When mine arrived, it looked dry and burnt. The top piece of bread was basically just burnt toast which was sat on top. When I rejected it the waitress told me it was meant to be like that. My Father's one, which is pictured, was the same and was also sent back at which point the waitress admitted that they hadn't put enough liquid in the mixture.
The children's playground consists of one old, badly maintained piece of equipment. One of the ladder rungs is rotten, pictured, and there is nothing to cushion the kids when they get to the bottom of the slide or if they fell or jumped off the equipment. Frankly it should be dumped as it's...
Read moreOh dear. The food matched the atmosphere.... Dreary and lifeless! I think the last time some of the staff smiled was a Thursday in 1984?
Ordered what was advertised as lasagna? I believe every Italian would be spinning in their grave at thought of facing what was brought out to the table? Dry (and I'm talking Sahara desert levels here) topping that requires an acetylene torch to cut through. This was most definitely reheated from lunch time (although which one I cannot say without Carbon dating tests?)
Then came the filling.... Tasteless, brown, and unrecognisable.. not even a hint of Italian herbs, and most certainly a first for a lasagna... No béchamel sauce in sight? Most definitely the worst lasagne I have ever had, and possibly the worst meal I've ever had too? It won't surprise you to know that I wouldn't...
