Ordered from here as we're staying nearby and decided against hotel/venue food again. Spotted this place on Google, swift 8 minute drive away and 20% cash collection discount was far too tempting to turn down on one of the hottest days of the year. Food wise - decent sized portions, good vegetarian options, but with a few snags. We were given the Paneer Tikka Masala not the Paneer Jalfrezi (one is supposed to be spicy, the other super creamy - assume due to colour and lack of spice, Tikka is what we got) and the bhajis were a little oily but I suppose they don't travel too well for all of 8 minutes in this heat. The rest was tasty enough - spicy chickpeas weren't that spicy but had a nice flavour, aubergines were lovely and smokey but lacked a punch and salt, and Aloo Gobi was really good. The highlight was the samosa, so spicy and rocked my world. Crispy, flakey, bursting with filling. Excellent. Roti were also great - don't see them offered enough, usually just stuck with naans and poppadoms. For the price point, it was a solid offering. More salt, more spice, and the right curry, could've been a banger. But I'd recommend it, just be very specific if you like it a certain way! I think I'm probably spoiled with my in-laws Indian food!

The Chequers is a former pub with a decent sized car park. The exterior blends unassumingly into the local area. The delightful smell of caramelised onion, capsicum and spices permeates the air before you enter. The interior decor is very visually interesting, but more importantly has been very well designed and laid out with careful use soft furnishings that balance the acoustics from hard surfaces. This creates a relaxing dining area with a pleasant ambience from other diners. The food is very good, extra effort is put into the chef's signature dishes that sets the chequers apart from other Indian restaurants. I tried the Tawa, Karahi and cashew Murgh. The Tawa was exceptional, with a delightful mix spices blended carefully with the uplifting tangy flavour of tamarind. The Karahi was also excellent with a deep and rich blend of spices and capsicum. Both the Tawa and Karahi had been further reduced on a skillet to intensify the flavours. The cashew Murgh made use of local honey as an ingredient, which provided a pleasant sweetness to the dish. All three dishes were very distinct and enjoyed with a peshawari and keema naan.

The food was incredible but let down by the service.

Upon arrival, they were quite quick to take the napkin rings away, even taking the napkins off of a family members plate just to take the ring. At this time, they took the wine glasses away before we had ordered any drinks which while we didn't end up ordering wine is something you should always wait to do just in case.

We were given one drinks menu between 5 people and it took a while for us to decide what drinks we wanted when we sat down as we wanted to talk for a bit and take our time. We had two different servers come over in a very brief time period and we were not ready.

When we got around to ordering food, we had the opposite problem and we had to grab the attention of the server by leaving our seats to take our order.

We ordered 1 poppadom each and they brought out 2 chutney trays, which the server said "ill bring another one over" when he initially only brought one out without consulting us. And between each course they kept on asking us whether we wanted to keep the trays which we did as most of our party had ordered bhajis with the mains.

When we got our mains, we didn't have any plates this was solved quite quickly however. Traditionally, Baltis are served with a naan and in their own special dishes. Had we have known it came in a normal bowl and without a naan, my mum would've ordered something else. Although, I can't complain about my food as it was really good and they were generous with the amount of meat in the dishes.

When they came to take our plates, the server seemed very frustrated and even admitted 'he was stressed' and we helped him with the plates as much as possible but you could see he was struggling and it ruined the mood of my sisters birthday...

I have been here many times and spent a lot of money, but ordered online for the first time and it did not go well. Discounts are very clearly advertised for takeaway, which you appreciate considering the food is expensive. However, if you order online, the advertised blue light and takeaway discounts are not available, which is not explained anywhere. I even wrote blue light discount in the information for the order so could have been contacted. Made to pay full price despite the advertising. This probably would have been less annoying had the food been good. I also requested two dairy free dishes, as I have done previously. At collection, was told this couldn't be done. Somehow it was done, after it was explained that we have had this many times before. The one dish was horrible. It just tasted like vinegar and so went uneaten. I did speak to the manager, who offered a 5% discount on next order, but I feel the lack of clarity is quite underhand. You can't advertise something and then say except this way which we don't explain at all. Bad meal and bad service. Won't be back.

In response to owner. I reviewed, as I didn't feel it was resolved at all, which I think I made clear. Resolving would have been to refund the extra money that had been spent due to your incorrect advertising. I found my meal experience a huge disappointment. You also didn't update the information, which you...

This review is a shame, I have been here on 2 previous occasions and could not have enjoyed it more, but last night wasn't right from the minute we got there, car park was full, when we got in the table we had booked clearly hadn't been logged, due to the confused looks when we said our name. We were put in the last remaining table next to a table of 15, given our menus and half an hour later still not even asked if we wanted a drink. The waiter returned, but not to our table and asked the 15 if ready to order, they replied that they could do with some menus first! We were starting to get a bad feeling about the night as the staff were clearly running around frantically to keep up. My wife approached the bar to ask if perhaps it was too busy and maybe we should call it a night, and although polite, the lady behind the bar apologised but agreed that it may be a good idea as they were overbooked. As we left, other people were at the bar complaining and asking for deposits back! Such a shame as we had praised the restaurant to the rafters to our other guests in order to come in the first place. Ended up going to a local Indian takeaway, and Co-op for beer and were home and eating within the hour..nice but not the experience we thought we were getting. Please don't overbook, lovely food but not cheap, you don't want to spoil your reputation, our 2 guests would be hard to...
